I'm thinking I'm going to call up my recruiter again today and see about reenlisting. I may go Air guard this time though. Won't have as much hassle about my weight that way, at least...

Bear in mind that you won't be able to pick your exact MOS... just a top X. The marine corps picks which one you get.

I'm a former Marine. My take on this MOS thing is this: When you enlist, the recruiter can guarantee certain things. One of those things is not specific MOS. what can be gruarnteed is thing 'air wing', tanks, FMF (infantry), etc. Of course, to get that guarantee in your contract (enlistment papers), you must first be tested (written test). They're not going to guarantee if you don't have the 'smarts' for it. So if you get the guarantee, off you go to boot camp. After boot camp, advanced infantry training. After that, a set of orders to the Marine Corps Air wing duty station. At that duty station, they will test you again and they will decide what job they will train you for in the Air Wing. After training, you get assigned an MOS. Basically, the corps has fulfilled their part of the contract. Now it's up to you to fulfill yours. Anyway, that's about how it works. ps: You've picked a great field. Engineers in the Corps are a great field. And the field covers a wide range of MOS's. Electal, Mechanical, Geographical, Hydraulic, everything. They don't do too much building of structures though. We leave that business to the Navy SeaBeas (CB), (Construction Battalion). Those guys work side by side with Marines. And they're really the only sailors that we can tolorate. lol

yea a lot of my friend's brothers are in the usmc and have not gotten the MOS they wanted:(

i really hope i get to be a MP Dog handler though

See my post script to my last post.

I know ARNG lets you pick specific MOS - but thats because you get assign a "slot" in a unit before you enlist.

I know active army (enlisted/officer) is a top 3 style, and marine officer is a top 10. I'm unsure of the exact process for any of the others.

well called and said they weren't going to do anything for 30 days but he did have my number still so maybe thats a good sign.... called the other place i put in an app at and the only thing I got was "well I've narrowed it down and turned it over to the saftey director" and thats all the answer i can get... I did see an ad in my local paper today for werner
