What will be the surprise about the transmission?

I'm guessing manual vs automatic and then dual clutch.

It's pretty much guaranteed to be a DCT. The only question is will it be 7 speeds or 8.

This is where I’m at. Thought it was common knowledge that it’s a DCT.

I think the transmission surprise is whether or not a manual trans will be available...

Automatic only, regardless of how good it is, might be a big disappointment.

Yes, this is very true. Just look at how the Ford faithful flipped their lids when Ford initially said that the new GT500 would only be available with the DCT. Ford quickly changed their tune once the moaning and groaning started.

I want a manual. I do not care if a DCT is faster. I want to row the gears myself. For those that truly understand, it gives you a connection with the machine.

GM, make a manual available on the C8.

I agree. No stick is a missed opportunity.

Even Porsche is bringing out stick only models.

That's great then, I remember reading an older article that it will use the same DCT in the GT500.

If the whole reason for going to a rear-mid engined configuration is to get past the inherent performance limitations of the front-mid config ... wouldn't it be a bit contradictory to then go and put an inferior transmission into the car?

Sure, but how big of a missed opportunity is it? On the 911, I think I heard the manual take rate is something like 1 in 5. Not even sure if Ferrari even offers a manual, and they're the icon for mid engined sports cars.

There is a big difference between the number of people who would like there to be a manual, and the ones who would only ever buy it with a manual. Only the latter are of any real importance to the folks in product planning.
