WTF

Front wheel drive is an ABOMINATION for the Camaro...... G.M., do this, and you've lost a loyal customer for life.

I have to say that this is ultimately a good move for GM and the Camaro. I just hope they pair it with a nice I4 engine. CAFE regulation and rising fuel costs will require cars get more efficient. So if the choice is FWD I4 (possibly hybrid) Camaro or none ... I will reluctantly take the former. We just went through the better part of a decade with no Camaro on the market, I'd hate to see that happen again.

As a little aside, from reading these comments, its readily apparent to me that most of you are in denial about this whole thing. I can't believe that the fanboyism on this site is so strong that all of you wold take a statement like that as a joke. Most of you need to take a step back, take off the Chevy Orange tinted glasses, and have an objective look at the facts. This is a great idea and it needs to happen for a successful GM. You all want GM to be successful right?

Sure this is an enthusiast site and the majority of us want V8's, but we should know by now that we can't always get what we want. The modern 4 cylinder ecotec engines are not the iron pukes of the 80's. They make roughly as much power as some of the V8's of the late 2nd generation camaros and early third gens. Granted those engines had more torque and a lighter car, but at least we'll have the same power. But if its a FWD I4 it would be able to shed a whole lot of weight, maybe 200 lbs? 300? Plus it would be a lot cheaper, probably under $20,000. Its not all bad.

One other thing, this wouldn't be the first time a FWD Camaro has been considered. Remember the Beretta? It was originally conceived as a FWD replacement for the Camaro after the 3rd gen ended production. At least thats how I remember the story being told.

I have been skimming this thread, and at first I thought it was a joke, but people are taking this seriously. I have no problem with a camaro with a turbo four cyclinder as LONG AS IT REMAINS RWD!! It is flat out untrue that that a car to meet future fuel economy standard it has to be FWD. Also considing that the competition will remain RWD means the camaro will be at a serious disadvantage. Hell Huyndai has the Genisis with great fuel economy, Hell the Toyota FT-86 will be RWD cost in the low 20's and will likely have great fuel economy from its 200hp 4 cyclinder. Again I am not against 4 cyclinder, especially when equipt with F.I. but the argument that it has to be FWD in order to boost fuel economy and cut weight is flat out untrue. It would be a sad day if one wants a RWD coupe they must turn to the imports.

Also the Ford probe was to be the next mustang, but the mustang community rightly so protested so hard that the mustang stayed RWD. That decision was correct, just look at the fruits of it. No way should the camaro be FWD.

FWD does not equal rice. It equals better handling, reduced mass, and better fuel economy. Where do I sign?

Well Junkie, thanks for the update. I hope you don't get into any trouble for it as this will be shortly known. If it isn't considered a negative marketing point by GM to do this major change the the platform, then letting us know beforehand shouldn't change anything.

So I guess this really makes the R6P Camaro's really worth something if they are the last of the rear wheel drive Camaro's??

There is no proof nor rhyme or reason. The mass of car may go down-however the balance of the car would be extremly poor-it would be too front heavy. GM wouldnt put so much into this car just to change it. It wont happen. So me proof of a FWD Camaro. Anybody?
