1LE Package
I'm looking to purchase a 1LE, but would like to know are there any differences between years...(i.e. 2014, 2015 - 2017) and what are the differences?
Is it only the eLSD in 2017? And how does the eLSD differ from and LSD? Thanks in advance for helping me make an educated decision. |

The current generation of Camaro, the 6th gen, came out in 2016, and the 1LE version of it debuted in 2017. There is a 1LE of the 5th gen car. I considered it last year when I got my car, but I was not impressed that it was sufficiently cheaper compared to the 6th gen to be worth what you miss out on. The 5th gen car does not have the eLSD, it is heavier, the styling is more dated (though whether it is any worse is in the eye of the beholder), it has less power, and a chassis that isn't as good. That said, the 5th gen 1LE is still fast & formidable.
I would consider your budget and look at the asking prices in online listings. Try to drive both. I did not drive a 5th gen car, but I test drove the 6th gen SS 1LE and the V6 1LE. I ended up going with a base V6 1LE, I actually enjoyed that test drive more. The SS is better in a lot of ways (engine, diff, trans, magnetic ride control, wheels & tires), but quite a bit more expensive. What is your intended use of the car, and what sporty cars have you owned? |

I use to be in the SCCA and did track days free for working events, autox monthly and HPDE with the BMW Club of Hawaii. However, the track in Hawaii was closed back in 2006, and since then I haven't done much racing of any kind. I drove a 1991 BMW 318is, 2001 BMW MRoady and a 1984 Porsche 911. My DD was a 2008 Lexus isF, a 2012 BMW M3 and a 1990 Chevy Z71. Moved to TX in 2015, sold all the toys ( at that time I only had the 911, and Z71) and have been driving a 2016 Z71. Now my left foot and right arm are going into Atrophy due to driving an automatic for 4yrs...LOL! Thank you for the info, and I think I'll be going with the 6gen due to the updates it has...hp, eLSD etc. I do like the 5gen look better though, but that's just cosmetics so no biggie for me. I see a few 2017s for $30k - $35k...looking forward to obtaining one soon! |

I've owned a 2014 1LE and now a 2018 1LE..
I loved my 5th gen and drove the shit out of her and she was a tank...over 22000 miles and multiple track days i only had to replace tires and brakes The 6th gen is great leap forward in performance and Tech. Mag Ride, eLSD, Performance Data Recorder and LT1 engine. The eLSD is the secret weapon in this Camaro, keeps the car planted and makes the engine power and torque more useable. Big questions you need to answer are "what are my plans for the Camaro?" and "what's my budget to spend?" |

I too had a 2015 SS 1LE but really wasn't a fan for the following reasons: - Ice Mode (inconsistent and frustrating ABS calibration) - I didn't fit with a helmet on (my car had a sunroof) - Outward visibility was quite bad - Seat's (I didn't have Recaros) As mine was predominantly an autocross car I wasn't a fan and I sold it after ~6 months. The Gen 6 is lighter, smaller, has a stiffer chassis, slightly better outward visibility, more headroom, better ABS calibration and most importantly the magic shocks and magic diff. I've got high hopes for my Gen 6 1LE but I haven't autocrossed it yet . As for price the Gen 5 1LE is closer in price to the Gen 6 SS 1LE than I thought, at least here in Canada. In November of 2017 I bought a 15' Gen 5 1LE for $37K CAD and in November of 2018 I bought a 17' Gen 6 SS 1LE for $40K CAD (both with roughly 4K miles on the odo). For $3K more it's a hell of a lot more car.

Just curious what ice mode is on a Gen 5 1LE. I don't see any different modes on my car. Am I missing something?

It's even worse on the Gen 6 SS (non 1LE).

I installed Recaros after purchase and didn't have a sunroof. I'm 6'2" so i was reading up about the helmet concerns with sunroof before buying I never experienced Ice Mode...I didn't AutoX my 5th Gen either. Outward visibility in any modern Camaro is always going to be "bad." That's something that never bothered me. I didn't have back up camera in my 5th Gen either. You're exactly right about value on the 6th gen. She slugged it out with the best in the world at Best Driver's Car and came in 4th. I also enjoyed the stares of envy while passing much more expensive cars on the track during track events. Good times! |
