I don't understand why you guys are having trouble with iTunes or the iPod. There are millions of people including me who have one and have no trouble with it. If you guys are really having such trouble I might be able to help. Send me a PM. I'm pretty good with working with iTunes and iPods.

Hate to play the devil's advocate, but I'm with Doc. To me, iTunes is actually easier to use than others I've tried in the past. Do you have the latest version downloaded?

You may or may not be right, but it's one hell of alot easier to teach my computer illiterate Mom how to use itunes than anything else I've tried .

Just like everything Apple does, it's a program for those who just want the f'ing thing to play music (or make simple movies, etc). Apple is horrible for power users who want to do 'outside the box' things.

Itunes is the reason I bought a Zune.

God I hate Itunes. I have a Zune, my wife has an Ipod.
Even with the PDIM software issues we use the Zune in the Camaro, and my wife just put her Ipod in a drawer in favor of just using the Music player on her new HTC Hero. I put a 16GB MicroSD card in the phone and Ipod is now a pointless irritation.

Isn't MP4 just video?

to all of these, I've been using iTunes for at least 4 years now and haven't had a single problem with it. I have however had a bunch of issues with WMP being a PITA both past and present.

Mp4 is actually the Dolby AAC format which does not kill the high frequencies and can create file sizes as small as an Mp3 but with better sound quality. It uses a different type of compression than the old Mp3 does.

With the kind of bandwidth and speed we're beginning to see now it won't be long before compression won't be needed at all. We can do that now actually but the music companies don't want studio master quality tracks being uploaded to the web.
Eh, I really can't see compression every going away entirely. For the simple reason that 95% of the nation doesn't like upgrading their computer more than once every 5 years. Hard drives will not be big enough, both in computers and things like MP3 players, or (likely) fast enough to load files that size in a reasonable amount of time. Plus, trying to move those files around from drive to drive in a multi-drive machine would be a royal pain.

Just my 2 cents.

Usb port not being recognized

On the way home from picking up my new ride yesterday I did not have my Ipod nor a CD. I hit the buttons and it said no cd and no aux. Got home last night, plugged in my usb cable and now it doesn't even say no aux. It says nothing. Am I missing something? Please help! It's like it is not even recognizing the usb port!

You can drag any song from the Library into any playlist, even have it in multiple playlists for different purposes. The Library is just a database; a playlist is where you use the songs from the database.

Itunes doesn't have album art, it's gracenote that has it and iTunes just connects to it.
wow, seriously?

How about you just insert the disc and rip it into your computer to automatically sync on your MP3 player.

and you have to make a playlist for everything?
That is just ridiculous.
