What is Jay Leno driving here?

Today my wife snapped these photos while we were driving on the 101 South, north of L.A. Jay Leno was driving this crazy old convertible with a license plate that read: WW2 V12. I figure it has a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12. It isn't his 27-liter Bentley. It sounded impressive and you could smell the exhaust - I suppose it runs on aviation fuel.

Sorry that the photos are upside down, I don't know why they display that way or how to fix it.

When I searched for the car online, I came across the video about that 27-liter Bentley, but that isn't it. The car I saw yesterday was styled like a 1930s Auburn... I think Leno was driving something inspired by an American classic from the 30's. But to hold such a huge engine, it was probably built from scratch.

If the 'WW2 V12' is a Merlin ... could the car be Rolls-Royce? That seems like a very Leno thing to do.

Good work! That's the car. But I still don't know what the body or chassis is.

The grill looks like a Rolls Royce. And from the styling, I'd say its from the 1930s. So its probably a Phantom II
