So If you look at pricing.
Camaro V6 vs Mustang V6 vs Challenger V6 Camaro V8 (SS) vs Mustang V8 (GT) vs Challenger V8 (R/T) Camaro V8 (Z28) vs Mustang V8 (Rouch/Boss) vs Challenger V8 (SRT8) Don't for get about the Corvette base coupe starts around $43k. Camaro V6 needs to be in the low 20's Camaro V8 (SS) needs to be upper 20's to low 30's Camaro V8 (z28) needs to be priced in high 30's to low 40's CBR and Cactus are on the right track... If the SS gets into the mid to high $30's I'm out sad to say. I love the car, but why would I not get a 2-3 year old Corvette? A loaded SS should run NO MORE than $35K MSRP. Why is everyone (generalization) so focused on the doom and gloom pricing? I saw one thread ask the question " how much over MSRP are you willing to go?" How about ZERO! It is just a car that depreciates! I understand it is a really cool car but please. This is a game the dealer plays. GM wants to sell cars. Why is everyone so willing to throw money at GM and its dealers? Instead of letting them know the most you will pay, think about what it should cost. Last edited by Shifty 6; 07-27-2008 at 11:57 PM. Pricing has not been finalized -- but looking at our targets, I think many people will be pleasantly surprised! |

Thanks. I hope that is the case. This has been an emotional roller coaster. The excitement of the car, then waiting, then the reveal, then waiting, then concern over headlights, then engines and the list goes on. I teared up when I had to let me '99 Z go. I so want the car. I just want a v8, 6 spd, halos and that's really all I need. I would like to have heated seats but, if the leather isn't VW quality, then I can pass.

Fbodfather also said THIS last night on Camaroz28:

Let me follow that by stating I am a Camaro enthusiast, and do not intend to complain or slam GM in any way with this post. The car is absolutely stunning so far! My concern: We've been told that this car will be priced comparable to the Mustang. I was very optimistic that I could pick up a V8 for at or near 30G, regardless if it was "top dog" or not. Do you think GM is going to price the 300 HP V6 with the Mustang GT? And the SS with the GT500 range. Call me crazy, I just think a 422 HP machine will be a lil more than 30G. Like maybe the in the 40G range. I intended on buying a V8 and still hope to do so, however 40,000 is a lil over my price range. I will say a 300HP V6 with a 6 speed and an RS package is something to think about, but is 30G a lil much for a V6? And will you lose street cred running around in a V6 with the LS3 also on the streets? I love this new camaro and fully intend to order one as soon as we can. I just hope Chevy realizes that when this car hits the roads, they will have competiton in the price dept. Something Ford didnt have when the new Stang hit the streets.... Worse case scenerio, I'llbe looking for a 2002 SLP SS in Sunburst Orange Metallic, but I'm not throwing in the towel on ordering a 5th gen. And i WILL NOT defunct to another manufacturer... Oh yeah, Thanks Team Camaro! Job well done! Rest assured -- it will be apples to apples -- This car will be amazingly affordable -- esp. when you realize what comes standard with the car-- and the comfort in driving it day in and day out...... |

That doesn't assure me at all. "Apples to apples" could mean that the V6, rated and performing like the Mustang GT, will compare in price. Talking about price being good "especially when you yada yada standard yada comfort yada" isn't comforting either.

I guess I can't read that into it, coupled with what he posted here last night it seems pretty clear, we shall see.
I bet Ford and and Dodge are poised and hoping so that they can increase their prices in any way they can. |

WOW! I just went on to auto trader to see what the SRT-8 was going for and most of them were in the mid 50K's!!! If the SS is any where NEAR that price there is no way I will be able to afford one. Even if it is around 40k I still will be hurtin. I was hoping for 35-36 loaded for the SS
