According to this:

they are expected to make 14 billion this season. I'd say they are "making money hand over fist” and “more profitable than ever"
Thank you. Even with the data that supports what I said, I'm not looking to get into a battle over daft semantics with anyone.

I was just pointing out that the NFL is insanely profitable for all of the owners/executives. The fact that Gooddell is going to earn $200M over the life of his extension shouldn't be viewed as egregious, or a surprise.

And this one says they are down $500 million:

Giving Goddell that much money when the league is clearly in crisis is absolutely a fair topic. The only one bringing up politics into it was the noob. I could care less about who you voted for. Sports should be a political-free zone. Play the game. No more no less.

A majority of the fans agree with keeping it political-free, but some of the players have turned it into exactly that, a platform to make a political or personal statement. It's funny that they can only make that statement on the field, in their uniform, when the camera is on them. They don't seem to make the same statement, off the field, on their own personal time, when there are no cameras.

But we cannot get players to just play the game, and the fans turned off the NFL, thus hurting their pockets. The NFL organization did nothing but watch and say it was okay to do this, turning more fans away.

IMO, I would of liked the NFL to tell the players, while you are wearing your uniform, and representing your team and the NFL, your personal views will have to wait. The NFL will support the players and their views on their OWN time, but not "while on the clock".

If I did what some of them do "While on the clock", I would be fired. When I am at work, I am representing the company that I work for and the have policies on work behavior. But we have derailed this thread a little.. now back to some football.

Come on CAROLINA, we need some help by the Dirty Birds to take down the Saints!!!

Agreed.

Now let’s see if Pittsburgh can rebound from heartbreaking loss to New England. As long as the Eagles get bounced from the playoffs it’ll be a good year.

well if you are supposed to be making 30-40 billion, dropping down to 12 billion is a crisis.

They were projected to make around 14 billion. We will have to wait until the end of the year, but if they are around 13-14 billion, I think they are doing ok.

See, one of the great things about a private enterprise is that if there is a problem, there will be a correction put in place by the organization. If players and their various political opinions end up costing the league revenue, then stipulations will be put in place. You want to bring up politics to the media? Sure, here's a $10k fine. Don't be surprised to see that next season. Do I agree with it? No; I think the whole "you are here for my entertainment and my entertainment only little man, play TEH FOOSBALL FOR ME!" attitude is garbage, and it marginalizes the players. However, if the NFL feels their pockets are getting hurt, they will do something about it, which should be good news for the NFL fans who's feelings get hurt by big bad opinions.

Do you have any hard evidence which would support the idea that the NFL "should" be bringing in $30-40B in revenue?

it was a sarcastic hypothetical number. In reality, probably the number would be higher.

Well, the Lions lay an egg in Cincinnati, this surely signals the end of the Jim Caldwell era in Detroit. I ask the learned members of C-5 NFL thread, who will Bob Quinn bring in to lead the Lions? My money is on the Pats OC McDaniels. Who should he bring in ?

Carolina wins, but super confused on all the NFC East talk. No way for Carolina to win the division as Saints have the tie breaker. The only way for Carolina to win the division was Saints lose out and Carolina win out. Well Saints won and Carolina won, so if Saints lose and Carolina wins next week, tie record, Saints win the division. Or is this just normal TV making drama out of something already decided no matter what happens. Both Saints and Panthers are in now, that is confirmed.
