They did a pretty good job with the 03/04 cobras that had IRS. They were pretty stout but had similar issues as us (halfshafts at a certain point). I only added an IRS Brace to the car (520rwtq held up pretty good). I didn't have as much wheel hop in the cobra as I do in the camaro. It will be good to see what they can do with it.

Completely disagree.

I have seen forum participants who work for the vendors directly that drive consumer feedback into product development. Forums/cars that come to mind:

Dodge SRT (caliberforums.com - I have had direct conversation with the SRT engineers)
Camaro (camaroz28.com - platform developers post directly there)
Mustang (corral.net, etc...)

I don't understand why people are so fixated on the IRS. It's got +s and -s.

And WBT, cars with performance in mind are a tiny fraction of the carmarket, and then it's a fraction of a fraction that go to forums. So even though these enthusiasts are getting some face time with dev's, it doesn't mean that they represent all the owners.

THis Rumor came from Motor Trend, i wouldn't take too much into it as they are contrantly pulling crap out their arses LOL. They could have made the S197 platorm IRS in 05 if they wanted too (based on the Lincoln LS/Jag S-Type platform). IMHO, it would be a bad idea.

I would much rather have a solid axle ,but I'm a bit old school. You can do so much more with them and their're more reliable.

It is highly unlikely that the Mustang will share a platform with any other Ford product. Here is a quote:

One thing that MT speculates won't happen is the Mustang's next-gen architecture being shared with any other models under Ford's prodigious product umbrella – including the Australian Ford Falcon or a new large rear-wheel drive luxury sedan from Lincoln.

Most stock SS's are running 13.3 average in the 1/4 with a one off high 12 here and there.
.4 tenths is a pretty good distance at the end of a 1/4 mile.

111MPH = 162.8 feet per second

.4 = ~65feet

2010 Camaro is roughly 15 feet in length.

About 4 car lengths by the end of the track given identical conditions and optimal driving. That is a pretty good spanking in my book.

This is comparing a 13.3 to a 12.9.
Not to get between ya'll magazine spec race, but you seem to be misrepresenting the Camaro SS performance. The Camaro performance according to Gm is 0-60 in 4.6 and 1/4 mile in 12.9 @ 111mph. Thats is accurate from what have been seen (especialy now that camaros are being broken in properly). Honestly I have seen 03 Cobras make 1/4 mile runs of High 13's and low 14's BUT I would not say that is represenative of what the car is capable of. Alot have to do with driver skill. That goes for the Camaro aswell, thats the only issue I have with your post I quoted.

I don't race my car a whole lot, so a live axle isn't terribly interesting to me. I do enjoy the relatively comfortable ride of the IRS though. Compared to a buddy of mine's '08 Mustang, it is like driving a cloud.
(I don't know what 2010 mustangs ride like though, never been in one, so I can't compare MY to MY)

Mustang will finally catch up to the Camaro in 2014. Autoblog is reporting IRS in 2014 Mustang.
I'm a bit confused here. I understand adding IRS makes certain buyers happy. However, in test after test the Mustang out handles the Camaro.

Bingo, and that is why the Mustang will have IRS. IMO

I can't speak to the Camaro, but my 2010 GT500 rides as smooth or smoother as my 2006 GTO ever did.

And I can find a Magazine that says it will happen. Just a differences of opinion, but the one thing can not be disputed by either of us is that the common public would prefer a better ride over a car that can do a .95G on a skipad with an optional pack reserved for enthusiasts.

That's because of the track pack which was specifically made to do so, without it the GT did not fare near as well. Of course a Live Axle on steroids will do better than a "virgin" IRS.

Based on what? What you read in a magazine somewhere. Let's do this, instead of taking two random performance numbers, let's take the very best time we know of for a 2010 SS Camaro on stock tires and the very best time we know of for a 2010 GT500 on stock tires and compare those numbers.

2010 Camaro 12.61 @ 111.60
2010 GT500 11.95 @ 120.29

That's .66 seconds in E.T (6-7 car lengths) and 8.69mph. I guess you could call that close if you want to, but most would consider that "no contest".
I've never heard of a stock 11.95 GT500, and either have any of my freinds who are Mustang fans and owners. Maybe the GT500 was "Mustang stock".
