This is a surprisingly very good vehicle. The V6 still gets about 24 mpg. It is a very handy little SUV. The steering is very tight. The rear suspension is well planted. The backseats can fold flat. The design in general must be very good since it hasn't really been changed in a long time. The Ford Escape is a Mazda suspension design but with softer shocks.

Just make sure the ABS light is not ON if you go to test drive a new one. If it is ON, then don't buy that exact car you are sitting in.

Land Rover LR2? My sister drives one. She got it for <24k with only 15k miles IIRC. It's a really nice vehicle and hasn't had any problems so far. I think they're more around 35k new though.

A used Land Rover is neither new, nor domestic ...

If they liked the Enclave or Acadia (or the Traverse), find a used one....plenty of them out there.....should be in their price range and still a nice vehicle.....the Buicks aren't typically beat up....neither are the Acadias....the Traverses are probably still new enough that there are many that have been beat either....

Good luck.
