Funny you say durability, and I know this is not the norm. But I got a buddy who is on his second cummins (his first one blew)

what all did he have done to his? egt's when the first one blew? 12 valve or 24? not saying that the cummins is unbeatable, just that I have a preference to inline 6 motors.

edit* that killer dowel pin can be a PITA

And what does EGT stand for lol? His is the 24 valve. He only had a superchips turned up about halfway.

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature

above 1400* for long periods of time is bad

do you know if he upgraded the fuel system to complement the tune?

I know quite a few people who have added intake/exhaust/tune and didnt do anything to the fuel system and burned out the stock lift pump leaving them with 0 psi which then burned out the injector pump.

No he didn't upgrade his fuel system. I don't specifically remember what mechanically happened when it blew, but I'll get you those specifics after I ask him lol. However, my brother has a Duramax with an exhaust, CAI, EFI Live, and a built transmission and his held up great! Even before the built transmission, he had no problems and he only choose to build it because he saw all his buddies limp their transmissions.

it also depends on how hard the vehicle is driven/pushed.

if your brother hasn't done it already, tell him to swap his head bolts over to ARP studs. cheap insurance against blown head gaskets. also an EGT gauge is another cheap upgrade to add. when the temps get too high, get off the pedal!
