Yeah, there was a recall. The supplier who built the heating units didn't do a very good job apparently.

I refuse to let them remove the heated washer fluid system on my Escalade. I use it way too often.

I have often wondered if it was the lack of fluid that caused the fires or if it is a design issue with the heaters themselves?

I have driven many different makes of vehicles here in Minnesota. Air temps down to -24 plus the windchill. I have never had any wiper nozzles freeze.

Yeah Jamie,as already mentioned they had an issue with a few catching fire,I actually changed mine to a different design/manufacturer (IE-I don't have the same factory heater that came in my truck)

Heres the recall info...http://www.media.gm.com/content/medi...0608_gm_washer

And heres where you can buy an add-on kit....http://alphathermusa.com/

If you have any other questions feel free to give me a yell down at the dealership!!

I live down south in AR and we don't have any "good" washer fluid available here because we never really need it. I seem to forget this when I drive up to NY to visit my family during the winter months. It freezes up pretty darn regularly and then I remember the problem all over again.

I park the vehicle in thier garage overnight and by the morning it will have thawed out. I can then run all the crappy "southern style" cheapie fluid out of the resevoir. The "good" northern style washer fluid goes in and we can then drive in the cold without worrying about the washers freezing. It isn't any more complicated than that.

-Mark.

Anyone on here install an AlphaTherm system in thier Camaro? I just got mine in today, and wondering if someone has some install tips. I want to mount at top of firewall, but its carpeted. Anyone know of any reason why I shouldent just self tap screw right into the carpet and into the metal behind it?
