I quit doing bench a month ago.... I just use dumbells and the incline bench... f....it

I guess this is what happens when you get old.....but damn it.... I want 250...lol
Went back and read and see you edited to include the above.

Everything I highlighted is FALSE or terrible.......

There are a few in this thread, myself included, in their 40's that bench in the 400's (I really don't like talking about #'s I'd rather coach). Some may be chemically enhanced but you STILL have to put the work in. But yes I am a lifetime drug free lifter.

That fact you quit doing bench a month ago is actually good.....I rarely bench heavy. Instead I do movements that build different aspects of the bench.

The fact you are "just doing dumbbells and incline" is terrible.

You WANT 250? How bad.........

What he said! When I was in my young 40's, I was the strongest and competing in powerlifting and strongman events. Like he said, it takes time and dedication in the gym to make gains. You truly have to put in your time, eat right, rest and most importantly, push yourself. I am not competing in events now, so there is no need for me to be benching over 400 lbs. Can I, probably, but I do more training now. I had my 'glory' days competing, I am passing along my knowledge and wisdom to the next generation of competitors. And I truly enjoy that just as much.

along with my newest weekend fun... pro wrestling... (me on the right with the belt)

That is awesome! I hope you are having a blast!

Yeah I have not competed since 2006 but I still train "that way" for the most part. I just can't let it go....ever since I was a kid I've been awed by people that have the ability to move weights.

I am training more in the Crossfit style and for (god I hate saying this) "fitness". Doing classes, running between 15-20 miles a week.....

But like you I would rather help others.

Before my rotator cuff tendon surgery I was benching that and I was then 61 and my body has been broken in many ways.

It was one of those things I was very hesitant to try, but was talked/convinced I would have some fun. OMG! I can't even begin to tell you how much fun we are having. And the kids love us, it's ridiculous and challenging in many different ways. My eyes were opened at our first match, during intermission, our trainer was like "all you wrestlers go out and meet the kids/crowd and thank them for coming" (it was a benefit to raise money for childrens hospital).

Wow, we were literally mobbed. I autographed over 50 kids shirts and pictures taken with them and parents. That is when it really sunk in, and brought me back to the days as a kid when I was watching wrestling. The impression you can give and excitement in their eyes. What a blast, our next big event will be Easter Sunday, defending our titles to the next 'puny' challengers. Our team name is "Bad Blood", and the back of our tshirts have a skull and crossbones, with "Ruthless Domination" below it.

Unfortunately Monique had gotten sick so she was not feeling her best last night but managed 193 reps which is a 13 rep improvement over last year. She went to the doc this morning and got a shot and some meds. Hopefully she will feel better Monday when she does it again.

She had 8 no reps if nothing else we hope to make those up but she'd really like to make it through 1 entire round.

If you look at our face paint, it is based off the Road Warriors, along will all the spikes we wear as part of our 'outfit' we wear entering the ring.

There has been some nasty colds going around. Took me down for about a week, and many friends and coworkers have had their bouts with it.

Ha that's the first thing I thought when I saw you. Looks like Hawk reincarnated (he passed away many years ago).

Yes she's a little better today but still not 100% but that's life. She is still going to give it hell today.

good luck. those are old school supplement routines. the key is less calories in, would grab a current muscle magazine and look at supplement recommendations. again wish you the best, don't over due it.

I know, and I'm not sure how to take my trainer calling me that on occasion. Not sure if it's a compliment, due to how big and powerful he was. Or that he's gone, and wishes me 'gone' too...hehehe.

I'm sure if I REALLY REALLY wanted to make gains again I could hit up the creatine.
I know it works....but I feel like I'm just to old for all that crazy supplement stacking bs.

I used to love that stuff back in the day...
Who remembers Phosphagain?....lol

I take a multivitamin and get 50 g protein on workout days thru whey.....I eat plenty of red meat chicken pork salmon tuna peanut butter etc etc etc.

back in the phosphgain days I was 140lbs and could bench 250
squat 350.
then...

I got married had kids etc etc etc....stopped working out went to kids stuff for about 20 years gained 15 pounds and could barley press 145 when I first went back 2 years ago.

my first year back.... the first month... I trained like it was back in the day...man was that kinda stupid..well not really..lol....but I could read my body a lot better now so I cut back to twice a week heavy weight....low reps for 6 months and I grew back to my old size rather quickly....like my body remembered what it was like and said......oh yeah....we remember this guy....the problem was and is...the strength isn't there anymore...I mean 225 for an old 145 lb guy aint too shabby.... but I feel like I'm more dedicated now.....smarter...a better diet... I should be able to get back to my old numbers.....
but its been quite a while now....
I switched to less weight more reps....time under tension...ive tried to switch workouts.....idk....I just think.....
theres something missing.

I'm stuck at 225 for MONTHS.
I have accepted that 225 is it for an all natural 46yr old.....and that aint too bad...

Bolded below is key to attaining your goal, IMHO.

- Age and endogenous testosterone are inversely related. Just a FYI

- Add creatine (5g per day) and BCAAs (10g per day) to your protein shake. These are not revolutionary additions to your whey protein shakes and they can (and should) be taken year round. No 'stacking' or whatever is required. I recommend utilizing Bulk Supplements brand as it is 100% whatever product you're ordering, no added anything. Take whey, creatine and BCAAs upon waking, pre and post workout.

- Consider adding Casein protein to your dietary intake, in particular at night to fuel recovery during sleep.

- Change your rep scheme on the primary lift you are seeking to increase (in this case bench press). I'd recommend the 5-4-3-2-1 scheme.

- Strengthen your triceps. This helps with lockout. Strengthen your anterior deltoids. This helps with lift off. Do floor presses (google) - this also helps with lockout.

- If all else fails, you can always research and weigh the benefits of trying out the ECA stack. This will give you tremendous strength while shedding body fat more effectively than any fat loss supplement or pre-work out. At your age, I wouldn't mess with this.
