I know very little about tactical optics.
What advantages do these offer over Eotech? |

I liked my Eotech but when it was discovered that they aren't truly parallax free in certain temperature extremes, I took the opportunity to return mine - a $500 optic should be what it claims to be. I might try the Trijicon RMR, not sure yet. The other suggestions are also viable.

Eotech were not my fav. Did not like the grainy circle/dot.
Not a big fan of red dots either, no magnification. Prefer at minimum 1 -4×. 1-6× better. Love 2-10×.

I got a red dot sight for my M30 but I've been looking at reflex sights.

I spent a ton on an Eotech XP2-0( If I recall correctly....). I sold it to a buddy and bought an Aimpoint Pro. I will never buy another Eotech. Nothing wrong with it, per set, just that I hated it, personally. Too wide. Grainy system. Mostly, just too damn big. Love my Pro. Cheap option- Bushnell TR-25. I put these on my smaller calibers.

![]() I've fired rifles and pistols off and on since the late 1950's and nobody has ever made any distinction I ever heard. Side note . . . after all that time, I've finally got firearms paperwork on the desk right now, waiting on a fingerprint appointment this coming Tuesday. Where I'll get to wait some more before I can take the next step . . . finding out what simultaneously fits what I'd really like to have and what NJ will let me have. The 15 round (fill in with your term of choice ) limit is not going to be a problem.Norm

A clip's purpose is really to hold ammunition together for insertion into a magazine, whether or not the magazine is fixed or detachable is irrelevant. When a clip is used, the piece of metal holding the cartridges together will just fall away from the firearm when all the rounds are expended, while a magazine is either integrated to the firearm, or has to be manually detached. Most importantly, a rifle that is fed from a clip relies on the internal workings of the rifle to feed itself the rounds, while the spring in the magazine is what does that work. For instance, the M1 Garand, which is still a fairly popular rifle uses a clip. It's not a stripper clip, but a block clip. The clip holds the cartridges and is inserted into the rifle into a fixed magazine. The bolt will come forward, strip the first round, the rifle will fire, and when the bolt comes back the mechanical workings inside the gun will lift the next round high enough for the bolt to strip it as it comes back forward. In contrast, the M14 (M1A) uses a magazine, where the rounds are loaded into a magazine, which pushes rounds up using a spring so that the bolt will catch the top round and push it into the chamber when it comes forward. The round is fired, the bolt comes back, and the mechanical workings inside the magazine (the spring and lifter) will push the next round up. The firearm itself does not have that functionality. When all the rounds are expended, the user must manually release the magazine. Anybody have anything to add? I kind of rambled a bit.
