I've often wondered how and why Snopes became THE DEFINITIVE source for all things true or false? WHO SNOPES, SNOPES?

I've climbed in several gas tanks at stations to clean them.
It's dirty down there and a truck pumping gas into those tanks will stir up not only dirt, but water and other nasty stuff like sludge. I do not fill up at a station if I see a tanker truck there. I want at very least for the dirt to settle and the water to rise. Yes, there is a filter on the pump but most station owners are cheap bastards and do the minimum they need to. As for my car's gas filter- I'd rather not put that to the test if I can help it. |

![]() The bottom line is that there are much easier and better ways of improving the efficiency of your car (and thus of saving you money at the pump) than the tips outlined above.

So, you don't want to get gas if the station is empty, better chance of getting water, etc.
So, you don't want to get gas if a tanker is unloading, better chance of getting crud, etc. got it...

Well...Regardless of what everyone said. I still don"t go to any gas station with the tanker there as there is less risk.
So no thanks, i'll pass.

How do you know if a tanker didn't just leave a few minutes before you got there?
How long does a tank need to settle?

When to avoid a gas station?
When the price is too high!

I go by this. I also go with, I get gas when the car needs it. My truck has 155k miles on it, and I get it when it needs it no matter what the weather is, what vehicles are there, or even what part of the country I am in. And guess what, never had an issue with any "gas" I have put in it. And to add to that, never had any engine problems either. I just replaced the serpentine belt at 152k miles...lol. So it's a truck and I treat it that way.
Some of you people just put way to much time into little pointless things.

Don't go to a gas station that has inexpensive gas, and you hand them a twenty, say "pump ten" and go outside to see the pump shut off at ten dollars, and then have to argue with them about the fact they just stole ten bucks from you. Yeah "pump ten". You thought the other ten was a tip? And you guessed which pump I was at? I actually foresaw my getting on the news for that one.
