Listen, I agree that Hellcat driver was most likely operating his new car way outside his skill set, but I can not be 100% sure. Neither can you. We just choose to look at it differently. |

Swerving to avoid is ALWAYS a last resort. Fixing a banged up bumper from an animal is one thing, hitting someone head on is another. Driving 101.

As far as questioning the guys driving skills, I know if I totaled out a brand new 700hp car so many people would love to have, I would fully expect to be called a db for the foreseeable future and would probably not even try to defend it. The names won't hurt near as much as what it will cost him if he did not have gap insurance. Hell, middle school girls are tougher on each other than anything said here. As for more speculation on the driver's ignorance: if he just got it, it had very few miles. So much for break-in. I know today's engines are different, but I still waited 500 miles before I got sideways in my Camaro.

I lost my leg on a motorcycle when an old lady ran a red light. My wife still won't discuss having one, not even a three wheeler and she liked the bike.

I agree...and would assume that our levels of acceptable street behavior are closer than would seem apparent from our conversations on this topic. I saw an accident (serious accident) going and coming from Christmas shopping both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. It appeared that all were ok (thank God), but it was amazing to me.

Every accident involves someone out driving their skill. Price of car or depth of wallet doesn't matter.

He would have been better off hitting the raccoon if he couldn't safely swerve around it! Something that I have drilled in to all of my kids heads while teaching them to drive. Bottom line is, in a single car accident, unless there was a mechanical failure of the car, he screwed up! Most likely driving too fast for the conditions in a heavy car that doesn't handle particularly well.

instead of swerving, perhaps he should have hit the brakes..? Just a thought.
I know a lot of us on here like to presume that we know what happened. But truth is, different circumstances call for different critiques. What really matters is that he's being charged with reckless driving, therefor we can safely assume that he was an idiot and doing something wrong. We don't have any other details (or if you do, please keep me updated). |
