Your choice is no different that the ZL1 vs 1LE vs SS vs 6 cyl arguments that happen here on a regular bases. You did what was right for you, and that is all that matters!

PS: I got a Prius as a rental car for a day, and kept trying to keep it in the most efficient range, so I get what you are saying.
I worry about the quality not the price!

Congrats on your purchase, while you made a drastic change from the 1LE, I suspect that many other owners had similar experiences. There is a unusually high amount of low mileage 1LEs for sale, for a limited vehicle. I was interested in one myself about a month ago but I was warned by past and present owners of the very poor ride quality at anything other than a track environment. Let us know how the Volt works out for you, have fun.

The Volt is a really cool car. If you haven't driven one, do so before you judge one. The torque on an electric car is instant and pretty darn cool.

With that said, I am scared with our future. Right now, yes, energy is cheap for an electric car. However, remember a big reason why gas is so $$$ is because of all the taxes added on. A true gallon of gas sans the taxes is I'm guessing around $1.75 - $2.25 a gallon.

I am very curious and nervous to see where and how the government will make up these lost revenues when more and more people go electric... :O

Great point. I know that several states including my NC are considering ways to get the lost gas tax revenues out of these hybrid and electric vehicles, maybe in the form of a mileage based fee.

My DD is a Nissan Leaf. EV's are not for everyone, I'd hate to see a lot of them on the road. Our electric bill went up and entire 30 bucks a month, I charge every night too.

Enjoy your Volt!

I never said it is ALWAYS true. There are many types of electricity producing processes. Burning coal is one. Many involve burning fossil fuels that is right in line with burning gasoline. Your move.

I'd like to have a Volt. With a tube chassis, LS3 and a 6speed. Ultimate Sleeper.

I was shopping Volts as well when I bought the Camaro. I really like the approach - electric first with a generator (and some mechanical boost). This is a true competitive advantage for GM, like a Tesla with range. Everyone else is licensing Toyota's Prius system. GM will eventually make in volume smart cars like the Volt, with some performance/prestige lines for niche markets. The smart cars will have the expanded infotainment systems, etc. I am waiting for pickups to finally go back to being used for work, but gas will need to go back to $5/gal for that to happen.

The OP is looking for some validation - fine. Others would be posting on the Volt sites how they bought a Camaro because they are tired of commuter cars. We will have cheap oil for decades more, but the electric motor has other virtues. Torque, simplicity, smooth, quiet. I just hope you don't park your Volt in a big McMansion that burns greenhouse gases to heat and cool it.
