Nobody is driving a concept car other than engineers/reps testing and driving to auto shows. Once a car goes into production it is no longer a concept car. It's pretty simple logic. There are a plethora of one-off prototypes we could inject into any discussion, but in terms of chronology for the end consumer it is completely illogical to do so. The fact of the matter is, Dodge is extremely late to this party that the ZL1 and GT500 have been having for a few years now.

The third generation Challenger was introduced at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show after the s197 Mustang had already been on sale to the public for a year having been introduced at NAIS way back in 2003 and sold to the public starting as a 2005 model year. The GT500 broke the 400hp mark by 100hp in 2007, again before the Challenger was even on dealer lots in any form. The 2007 GT500 also came with the tr6060, the 6-speed manual you are referring to. That first year of '08 Challengers consisted purely of SRTs which were directly comparable to the '08 GT500 in price (about $41k base price for each), but down considerably in horsepower.

About the only first that can be attributed to the Challenger is the 8-speed automatic. Now Dodge is introducing a top-tier Challenger after the zl1 and gt500 have been battling it out for a couple years and the next generation Mustang and Camaro are just around the corner.

you sir are are correct on some things but wrong on the others. Challenger was the first pony car to offer IRS across the board (99, 01, 03-04 corbras were special models only), first to offer over 400 NORMALLY ASPIRATED horsepower, , pretty sure it ws first to offer stability control and touch screen navigation. Also you realize that a regular 6.4 Challenger SRT8 is nearly as quick as the ZL1, what do you think a lighter and MUCH more powerful supercharged version is going to do? Also latest rmors, true or not, have the supercharged hellcat pricing coming in below their Mustang and Camaro equals. This is going to get very interesting.

That's fine, the Challenger is and always has been for a different group than Mustang and Camaro, the true Mustang and Camaro competitor should be appearing closer to when the next Camaro comes out on a smaller and even lighter platform than the Challenger......

Ummm...no the challenger is there to compete with the camaro and mustang not the charger. Now that they will offer a supercharged version it will go directly against the zl1 and gt500.

Oh my god. How are you still hung up on this? Is English your second language?

Production car ≠ concept car
concept car ≠ production car

When we are discussing what is offered to consumers chronologically, why would we ever consider vehicles that were not offered to consumers i.e. concept cars? The only vehicles that should be considered are those offered to consumers.

Have you ever heard of the 1958 Ford Nucleon? Chalk up Ford as the first to offer a nuclear fission powered consumer vehicle because you know, concept cars are every bit as relevant as actual production cars!
