Sugar cane is better than kernel corn, but right now the most efficient plant for ethanol is switch grass, there is also another type of grass(not sure the name of it) being researched by the University of Nebraska that shows promise to be twice as good as switch grass...I know I still have the farming mag. that I saw that in around here somewhere.....

10 billion dollars =

5 coal plants = 5 TeraWatts per plant per day

or

2 Nuclear plants = 10 TeraWatts per plant per day



25 > 20 for the same price.

This is a good short term solution, but there are benefits to building the Nuclear plants as well. One would be the eventual development of fusion power over fission. Plus from what I hear the Nuclear power plants are a lot more effecient than the ones built 40 years ago. Just saying this as coal is something that is running out just like oil, but not at the same rate.

On a side note with the power grid.. I am surprised there isn't more organization to bring power back into the grid. Sure a few solar panels on your house doesn't do jack if its just one house. But even half of the buildings in a city participating in it would add incredible amounts back into the grid.

As for the 75 mpg standard, I doubt it will even make it. When was the last time you heard of a prediction of 20 years into the future in politics actually coming true. It just sucks for those who want to plan like fbodfather said.

Well you can't get any cleaner than getting power from the wind and this would power about 1 million homes.
