the target was to match or exceed the Ford GT supercar. that was the performance model.

I can't wait to see the real head-to-head comparison articles, but until then, we bench-race I suppose... I've got a couple comments..

* Grimmace - You do realize that it's the marketing team that decided upon model-year assignments, that they are rather ARBITRARY (2013 is 6 1/2 months away), and that these two vehicles are more-or-less hitting the streets concurrently, within a couple months of each other... They are contemporaries, period, trying to paddle-back to the 2012 GT500 just makes you look horribly desperate.

* Sure, a pulley-tune may grab you an extra 50hp at the rear wheels, but that certainly isn't going to net you the EXTRA 8MPH you need in trap-speed just to hold-check. Even with a pulley-tune mod, you're still underpowered and overweight compared to the 2013 GT500.

* Not to mention that they can do the same pulley/tune mod just as easily, just as cheaply.

* The fact that the ZL1 is a bit cheaper is a valid point, I'll grant you that, which allows you to use saved-cash towards mods. But that point only goes so far, because you never get your money back on mods, so when you look at the end-game, buying a slightly cheaper car and then modding the heck out of it is not an apples/apples $$ comparison. The modded car will be worth far less when it changes hands.

Lastly, most earlier GT500's on the road are at MINIMUM pulleyed/tuned and more than ready to walk off from a stock ZL1 in a friendly highway pull. So if you're going to worry about street-cred, better start turning wrenches... My 2011 GT500 with TVS/elbow/TB upgrades dyno'd at 660hp to the rear wheels, through it's 100% stock exhaust. It's a silly silly goose!...

In any case, I'm driving my '67 Corvette today, I'm no bow-tie hater by any means. This pony car war IS INDEED great for both marques, and the rivalry is damn fun...

Looking forward to seeing these two cars on a good road course, release the hounds!!

We could have slapped the ZL1 moniker on the SLP car and crushed the 2012 Shelby and run neck to neck with the 2013. That being said GM wanted to create a complete car that could perform at Global standards.

No disrespect, but that statement did make me laugh.

Model year 2006, the first year for the Z06 (and the year I own) is the lightest car of the current C6 lineup. Later Z06's got a tad bit heavier as sound deadning and other features/enhancements were added.....1LZ cars being the lightest and least expensive package regardless of model year.

That being said, there's no more than 50 lbs or so between the lightest and heaviest models....2013 advertised curb weight of the Z06 is 3175 lbs.
Fully loaded Z07 equiped cars are right around $99K USD......a super limited edition model might touch 100K, but nothing remotely close to 110K.

Should be a lot of fun racing the new GT500 this year.....I have a few future owners who are gunning for me this season.
Lol when I put all the options I want on chevys website it becomes 107k

might be a cheap way to get 650+RWHP.
We're hijacking a bit, but FYI Justin bolted a TVS to my 2011 this last december, along with the big elbow, CJ 65mm TB, and resonator-delete.

I have totally stock exhaust still.

It dyno'd at 660 rwhp, 641 lb/ft.

Roughly $4,000 worth of gear, installation finished, dyno runs done, fine-tuning finished, in under 2 hours.

Been driving it every day since, no problems, totally civilized like factory. Justin's a good guy.

There is no reason for anyone that has a ZL1 to hang there head just because of the GT500.

The ZL1 is by far the best Camaro ever produced and one of the best buys for HP and performance that one can buy today. It was my first choice and I truly love everything about them. To all that have the pleasure to own one, you all have very mean machines.

There is a video on youtube where jamaal says why they used that tire size. Basically he said it was to eliminate understeer. If he raised the rear to a 305 or 315 then the front would have to upped to a 285 and steering goes out the window at that point. He said if you look at all the true race cars their front tire sizes are around 265. I mean look at the GTR. It has the same front and rear of the shelby or pretty close to it I believe. The front on the GTR may be 255 but the rear is also 285 and look how fast it goes.

Even if you look at the formula for tire grip, width is not in it.

they deffinately closed the gap though and made it a driver contest though as now I beat on stock gt500's like red headed step children grandma shifting and rolling out. I would have to do my part to beat this car at least.
Well ford hinted to expect this with the shelby so they didn't lie. This car is faster around a road course than a ford gt. Words straight out of Jamaal's mouth. Even Jay leno who actually owns a zr1, z06,ford gt,and now 13 shelby says its faster than his ford gt that he put upgrades on even making it have 600 rwhp. The zo6/z07 is right on par with a ford gt.

Deductive reasoning would say then we have a contestant for the z06/z07. Which being 600 pounds heavier is remarkable.

You must have added the Museum Delivery ($490), Velocity Yellow or Crystal Red tint coats ($850) and Engine Build Experience ($5800).

A fully loaded 2012 C6 Z06 3LZ car with the Z06 Ultimate Performance Package (Z07) and either of the expensive tint coat paint options brings the total price (including shipping/destination freight charges) to $100,230 USD. That's with every car option and the kitchen sink, but not the Museum delivery or engine build option
