That sucks man, glad you are fixing her rather than sending yet another to the junk yard.

Can I buy a reliable, 'new' car for 400 bucks?

No.

This is why I'm doing this.

And if you saw the extent of the damage and the tools required to repair it, you'd probably leave it to a body shop too. What's involved is nearly removing the entire right side of the car short of structural support. My aim here is to not 'just get it on the road and home to sit'. My aim is to have my daily driver and main mode of transportation back.

Insurance would probably have covered it if I wasn't at fault.

Being an incident at the track, they WILL drop me like a stone without skipping a heart beat.

I know this for a fact since my last insurance company dropped not only me, but the joint plan my family held their house under due to the house having issues and a brother that didn't know what a speed limit was.

TLDR: Insurance won't help and I can't afford a replacement. So my only viable option aside from leaving the world of personal transportation behind or 5 years or so is to spend the money and fix it.

That is, if any of you want to donate a 38,218 mile 6spd Maple Red Metallic Hurst Trans Am to replace it.

Didn't think so.

Also, at present I'm paying 129/mo for the car. This will up it to 429/mo. Honestly, no different than finding a low mileage '06 GTO and paying a similar loan.
sorry man since it was 00 I thought it was paid off. good luck to you man

Hey, it's alright. Was having a rough night anyway when I posted so I should apologize to both you and 2ndgen.

I actually keep asking every year to put in a shed or at least widen our drive to accommodate a project or spot for the T/A (or earlier, my truck) but it isn't in the cards.

As for the bill I have at least 50 hours body, 10 hours frame, 26.5 hours mechanical, refinish 26.5 hours.

2205 in body, 500 on the frame, 1160 for refinish, 2750 for parts, paint and materials at 625, throw in tax and it's 7821.89.

Found that since the rocker trim is toast and we're keeping the inner door panel, it should probably top out at 8000 if the front hub and rear axle shaft/hub/seal are tweaked.

Assholes.
Who cares what they think? Its your life and car. Just get a car cover and cover it up when your not working on it. And if they still have a problem plug your hose in their mail slot over night.
