I would imagine the reason they don't have a switch is because the car may need to be OFF before the changes can be made. Also, even in 'normal' mode this thing is still going to haul ass and give a stock Camaro a run for it's money. Track mode is just taking out all those little things street cars use to make the ride comfy, enjoyable, and not drain the gas so quickly.
I think it's a pretty cool idea, kudos to Ford for going with it.

This is just an educated guess? But I'm pretty sure it will beat a stock Camaro rather than give it a run for it's money, considering the standard GT 5.0 already beats the SS in most tests. Just saying. And it is a great idea and I agree with you to give Ford kudos for offering such a thing. It would be nice if GM could at least give us some gearing options on the Camaro first, like Ford does with the Mustang, and than try to tackle this idea of different keys or options for the mapping!

I enjoy the competition amongs the big three, heck it keeps them on their toes to improve and each try and not be outdone by the other.

Because the redkey tune probably doesn't have to abide by emissions standards. . . The boss gets a LOT of engine work. With the red key tune, I wouldn't be surprised to see some really impressive performance.

No denying the power a twin turbo set up can make. I just don't like them on domestic performance cars and I would probably pass on a factory turbo car. I'm curious to see what the future has in store for the 50th Anniversary Mustang in 2014.

The thing that sets this apart from anything I've seen before, is the PCM has two tunes built in. Kind of like a motherboard that has a dual bios, and can boot to either one; one for day to day tasks, and one for max performance.
It makes sense to use a key, because the computer needs to be rebooted to change tunes. It gives you the same thing you would get if you used a flash tuner, but without the need to re-flash the PCM every time you want to change the tune. Last edited by chain777; 11-11-2010 at 04:07 PM. |
