dude... just saw this post, and i was seriously dreading reading all the comments and advice given here.

i'm assuming you've been taking crappy cell phone camera pictures (haven't seen your crappy photos).

about 8 years ago, you could buy a camera for around $800 and it would do just a little bit more than our camera phones do today.

now you're gonna read comments from douchebags who will suggest that you buy the Maserati of digital cameras, and tell you that you're wasting your money if you don't got for the $1200 camera, and a couple $300 lenses and a $100 tripod. but i figure you just want to take pictures... not be the next Ansel Adams.

do some shopping around. look on Amazon.com, look on Costco.com, look at specific camera makers' websites... compare prices.

you can do very well with a camera in the $150-$250 out-the-door range. look for a camera in the 8MP-14MP range that also shoots 720p video.

Easy tiger. He asked how a particular image was done. And we informed him what was used. The only one acting like a douchebag is the one attacking people without reading the thread. Once he said he didn't need that he was given some good options at reasonable prices. Next time READ.

Well actually picture 1 that you are referencing isn't a picture at all. It is a computer generated image. Somebody did that for GM.

As far as a camera, I utilize a Nikon D300 and a D90. You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a camera to take pictures, you just need to understand how to take pictures. To solve half the issues people have with taking pictures, read this book http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-.../dp/0817463003 . Also, you would be suprised what a pro picture looks like before post-processing. A picture you love in a magazine could have many hours of processing, photoshop etc.

Almost every new point and shoot has a manual mode/aperture priority/advanced shooting modes today, so you would be able to take better pictures if you wanted to go with a Point and shoot, provided you learn how to use them.

If you haven't bought one already, I am selling my Nikon S70 compact point and shoot. Here are the manufacturers details on it. Thread with sample photos of when I rented a Camaro for Father's Day.

Its a really good camera. It can do 720p video as well. I have a carrying case and 8GB SDHC card that goes with it. I also have the original box and instruction booklet still. PM for a price me if you're interested.

What camera is it? Remember, the amount of Mp really doesn't make as much of a difference as you think, it's really the quality of the sensor. As far as the specs ago, it sounds like it will make a decent camera for you.

I use a Nikon D90. It's a SLR Digital camara, and pretty nice.

Here's a couple of shots:

Canon G12 right now hits the sweet spot of a DSLR and a point and shoot.

i never pointed any fingers.

funny how you guys got all butt-hurt and defensive about it though

apparently Scuba Steve is the only one who could take what i said with a sense of humor

but it sounds like 2SSRS got a camera that he can take some much nicer pictures with. and i agree that he'll probably be able to take some amazing pictures once he learns how to adjust everything manually.
