(3) The driver of a motor vehicle shall, when reasonably necessary to ensure safe operation, give audible warning with his or her horn, but shall not otherwise use such horn when upon a highway.

(8) A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318.

I must add however, that I am a police officer. And THAT traffic stop, as told, is ridiculous in my own opinion. Sounds like an ass-clown.

Here in Washington State, they made that a law a couple of years ago. I strongly disagree with the law because of situations like the one you just pointed out.

Apparently, some people take it when you honk at them the wrong way...and the nanny state legislature had to get involved. Not to get too political, but if you don't like these kind of laws, vote out the people that make them and vote in people who will legislate sane laws.

I heard if from my uncle (living in Florida), who heard it from his wife's sister's boyfriend, that there is a new law down there, that has yet to be put into writing, that there is a manditory minimum of six camaros that must be pulled over per month per officer. Give the officer a break, he is just trying to get his quota in early!

I must add however, that I am a police officer. And THAT traffic stop, as told, is perfectly fine in my own opinion. Sounds like it might have been slow that day and he was looking for good stops. Sometimes anything suffices.

If that is, indeed, the law, it would be interesting to hear the rationale. On the surface, it just seems stupid and intrusive. As a police officer, I don't think I would make that stop, unless I thought it would lead to something else. That sounds like a good PC type statute. It's not uncommon for stops like that to lead into a bigger issue, ie;DUI, drugs, suspended driver, etc.

Again, the officer didn't issue a citation, so one would think he was having a slow day or was "window shopping" (as we call cheese PC stops) for a more serious infraction.

Laws like these are actually very helpful in catching real crooks. It's a double edged sword, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

you got my +1 on this! here in florida we have what the tourists call crazy turn lanes with lots of painted arrows pointing everywhere. lots of us dont have time to sit through a 5 minute light every half mile because someone in line isnt paying attention or cant comprehend where and when to go.
