This whole dialogue smells suspiciously of "media awareness" advertising. The more people see Chevy or Chevrolet when reading today's current news, the more people will flock in to the showrooms.

Oldest trick in the book - subliminal and in your face all at the same time. Bad press, good press, doesn't matter, it's all the same in the advertising world.

It is a big deal since they should be focus on more important issues then what their nickname is. This is just a waste of time and isn't going to change anything. The only thing it did was get them in the news.

also: http://www.mlive.com/auto/index.ssf/...ion_chevy.html

Also I don't see BMW insisting they be called Bavarian Motor Works, since BM has a negative cognition.

Is the Challenger a Mopar? Is the Mustang a Ford (can't shorten that one up)!

Is the Camaro a Chevy? Hell YA!!
At least they didn't want us to call it a Sonota

touche'

But the point isn't what they did, it's more what to do in the future to create that consistency of brand awareness.

The market is getting very crowded and having a clear brand and name recognition is becoming increasingly important. There is a Chinese automaker named Chery. Chery....Chevy.....Chery. So I think GM is trying to create a consistent awareness of Chevrolet. After all, the guys name wasn't Louis Chevy now was it.

Does that mean GM can't call a Cadillac a "Caddy" anymore either? B.S.!

I wonder if he was called Chevy for short? or Louie?... more than likely back in those days he was either Mr. Chevrolet, or Louis...

I still think all this normal people getting so worked up over a stupid memo about marketing and internal communications is really funny... It isn't going to change what we call our cars one bit, so what's all the fuss about?

Im noticing a patterning of the commercials and such "... today's Chevrolet" "... in the USA, Chevrolet..." etc. Its seems to flow better ending with a Chev-ro-let. As opposed to Chevy. Lets put it this way. If I call the dealership, I want the secertary answer the phone "Day's Chevrolet" random example. I want the guys in parts and service to say "Chevy." The redneck "Ford vs. Chevy" debate needs to not turn to "Ford vs. Chevrolet."

That's horrible. Design a new awesome car instead of worrying about your name. Bring the Chevelle back to rival the Charger. Haha.

I am in violent agreement with you two!

My wife called it a "Cammy" the other day. After 25 years I considered divorce

I can say this; As a business owner, I have changed my tune on so many things it's not even funny. Like offering new customers deals and not giving your loyal and long term customers the same deal. It used to really piss me off. I was like, "WTF, noob gets half off as a congrats for not buying all this time and I get a full bill?" Well, it makes perfect sense. Profit margins are often paper thin, and I can't afford to give the deals to my existing clients. Deals get noobs in the door. In big companies they have stockholders etc. to please. Bottom line is what it's about. If you don't change as change is needed, you end up in trouble.

Ain't gonna change my life none.

My future Z/28 is going to be a "HEAVY CHEVY"!!!!! And make no mistakes about it!!! Chevrolet means you wear a tie when you drive your car. Chevy means you got a baseball bat in the back seat.
