Can we try and get back on topic ladies and gentlemen? I'd prefer to not close/move/merge another mustang thread...

General rule of thumb for drag racing. ET=Launch/traction MPH=Indication of horsepower (if you ran the cars side by side in a roll race on the highway, two cars with equal traps would make a great race....traction is out of the equation) You can calculate a cars fastest possible ET (or damn near from plugging in some numbers, it seems to be very accurate) by plugging in a trap speed. http://golenengineservice.com/calc/calcetm.htm |

That is a very general estimate.
But yes I agree the first 60ft are usually the most important in the race. I don't call a 1 tenth and .2 mph difference on different days and possibly different tracks to be suspicious. I mean if they did sand bag the Camaro they are far better drivers than I give them credit for. |

We are talking about the drag video between the two right? Did you see that launch? Maybe the left traction control on? Maybe on purpose

It is funny they got the best time ever with the mustang in this test. But also got their worst time in the camaro in this test. But whether it be sand bagging and or a traction issue...it doesnt seem from the looks of the numbers that the camaro got a fair shake. Unless you are suggesting that under the same conditions that the camaro ran a 12.9 in these guys would have pulled a 12.5 in the mustang...I would have to laugh. If you look at the videos both were done at this same air strip facility that they always use. Horsepower/performance was not the problem in this test, on this day, on this track(same one they always use). It was the launch. The camaro was either very hard to launch on this day and or they didnt care to try for much better. I personally think it was a little of both. It is obvious the mustang is faster and I will not argue this. Most just dont accept it is by .4 tenths. I would agree by the numbers we have so far that the cars will have about a .2 tenth difference between them all things being equal. |

I haven't had enough driving time in a 2010 SS to see how hard it would be to bog the car on launch. That would have been about the only way they could botch the numbers on purpose. If they were intentionally sand bagging the car the mph would have gave it away.

It is very easy to bog. It is a heavy car. It is tricky to get just right. The car will go up in smoke and or bog until you practice. It is a different feel from a SRA. It would be hard to try and drive both on the same day to max potential. With only a slight bias it would be very easy to just write off the camaro.
Well just watch the video (motor trend). It looked like the mustang took off like a bat out of hell and the camaro you could barely hear the engine. It was definitely a low rpm launch. But maybe that was the only way they could get a hook on that day...who knows. They sand bagged and or did not perform solid launches. MPH will still be fine with a half ass launch. I wish they would post 60 ft times. |

The mustang definitely sounded like it had more traction problems than the camaro.
I agree I would love to see the 60ft times. |

4.3-4.4 0-60. Traction must not be that bad.

Little factoid: one time a Camaro and Mustang launched at the same time and the launches were so strong it caused the world to spin backwards. You can take that fact to the bank. The money bank.

Oh I still think it turned a decent 60ft times, on stock rubber. But on a tire it sounds like their is more on the table in the stang from that launch on the video.
When I had my 90 5.0 I was used to 1.50 60ft times. Not spinning the tires like in the video. |
