And for the record, that was some very stupid s*it! If responding to a run with no lights on excessively speeding, fine. Driving like that for no reason?

thats very sad , im not sure why they had to say there was pot in the car and coming from a party, what does that have to do with anything, they were still in better control of their vehicle than the officer

STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!

I have an accident reconstruction certification from A&M and I am recognized as an expert witness for accident reconstruction. I have been to court to testify when accidents with police have cost the lives of civilians in our community. It is never a pretty sight to witness these tragedies. I came to know an officer who was responding to an officer involved foot chase with a violent suspect. In the course of this officer’s response he collided with a vehicle occupied by a 17 year old pregnant girl, who was tragically killed. This officer’s torment and suffering was beyond my ability to convey. Not only did the world lose a precious young girl and her unborn child but a short couple years later we lost our colleague to a self inflicted gun shot wound. DON’T ANY OF YOU THINK FOR A SECOND that this officer is not already paying his DUE PUNSIHMENT. His self inflicted regret, remorse and internal depression will HAUNT HIM FOR LIFE! We have already tragically lost a precious pair and I pray for their souls, their family and I too pray for this poor officer because he needs it beyond anyone left alive after this tragedy. As for reconstructing this accident it is obvious that the officers speed is the greatest contributing factor yet it is not the only contributing factor. Those are the words and approach that this prosecution will take.

I have been badge toting for 20 years and I have seen it done good ways and bad ways. I can say without hesitation I have done it both ways but with a clear conscience I have made it my highest priority to do unto others as I would have an officer do unto my Grandmother.

It has worked pretty damn well for me.

As for the salary stuff, I have lived comfortably within my means. THAT IS THE KEY!

Definately not making excuses for them, what they did was inexcusable however they experience and deal with the worst that society has to offer, some handle it better than others.

Good friend of mine is an officer here in CA and was promoted to SGT in the juvenile sex crimes division he lasted about 5 years before he couldn't take it anymore and it changed who he is.

Good to hear from you Hylton, we miss ya!
How much an officer makes is irrelevant, these individuals made some really bad decisions that cost two peolpe their lives and countless others (including themselves and their own families) a lifetimes worth of grief including probably being being convicted of a major crime. There is nothing the victims were guilty of except being in the wrong place at the wrong time period.

Emergency responders can say they love there job all they want and the friend of mine I mention above 'loves his job' too but no matter what they say dealing with what they see and experience on a day to day basis is something most of us will never in our lifetime go through once. To hold them to a higher standard means they should also be be afforded a higher level of respect when they put their lives on the line everday for our protection but most times all they get is indignation for being a cop. How many of us actually have to wear a bullet proof vest when they go to work every day? It is there choice but do you have the balls to do it? I don't, couldn't handle it and I don't mind admitting that. Please don't sterotype because of the actions of a isolted incident. This a tragedy all the way around.

You quoted me but I sure as hell that wasn't directed at me. I have my feelings in order here. I support my local leos and allways will. I give monetarily and believe it is a good cause. I've known them in some capasity for a long time and for the ones who want to whine about what they do, other than being underpaid, I'll just repeat EVERY cop and trooper I know. FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO IF YOU CANT HANDLE IT. You knew the deal when you signed up, and you still do. All the guys I know agree because we've spoken during cookouts and such.

These guys can talk about being underpaid and be legit. They ARE underpaid.

But don't talk about being disrespected because it comes with the job and they know it.

So DON'T blanket statement all of us because a few will disrespect them and DON'T EVER accuse me of it. I take offense.

I'm sorry but I don't see how this is the officers fault. I watched the video many times and the car turned right in front of him. I agree that what he was doing was very dumb, but why didn't these kids see him on a well lit street with his head lights on. I'm sure his speed made the wreck a lot worse , but it wouldn't have happened if they wouldn't have turned into his path.

Not my intention at all, not directed at you in the least. Please reread my post I'm not defending their actions and I'm not hating on anyone. They have a tough thankless job and they know it going in. You were not the only who mentioned being held to higher standard. Not only is my friend an officer but my nephew is as well. They'll be the first to say there are good one and bad ones. Sorry if it came out wrong to you but no harm intended.
