The H1N1 hype is rediculous to me. The regular flu kills over 30,000 a year. The flu sucks in any shape or form. And if your immune system is compromised you're more at risk of developing complications period. Get the shot, don't get it. No one is forcing you.

Complications can arise from anything, anytime. An example being Influenza A causing brain swelling that caused dilirium.

I've gotten a bit ill after each flu shot but I do wonder how much of that is psychosomatic. Of course, since I usually get it on a UTA Sunday and then only have 7 hours between leaving base and having to be back there for my civilian graveshift, it may also be a lack of rest that continually wears on my system.

Xmicro_SS - I wish I didn't have to take anything. I hate taking meds. Tammy had to drag me to the clinic when I had pneumonia, and I could barely move. Unfortunately, I have to take so much crap to keep my nerve pain under control that I sometimes wonder why I don't rattle.

No, it would not increase your chances of a severe rxn.

This would be EXTREMELY unlikely. The Vaccine is only recommended for use in healthy, non-pregnant patients aged 2 to 49. The live viruses in the nasal vaccine are cold adapted, meaning the attenuated viruses can replicate in the upper airways but do not replicate in the lower airways because of the temperature difference. I would have to add that if you are someone in the 2 to 49 age range and are a caretaker/live with an immunocompromised patient you should only get
the inactivated flu shot injection.

Neurological problems are terrible, and very hard to live with.
The thing is that the flu shot cannot provoke much of an immunological response in people with weakened immune systems, so it doesn’t do them all that much good. The flu shot has its best effect when healthy people get them and thus avoid spreading the flu to people who are especially vulnerable.
So if you live in a frat house go ahead and skip it. But you probably should get the vaccine if you think that sometime during flu season, you might visit a friend or relative with a compromised immune system. Or if you think you or someone you care about might get sick with something else that stresses their immune system and then catch a flu…

How would you know if you have a weak system? I know most
probably that I would get one because I have asthma, but one is always
hesitant especially if you never take anything except for Advil time to
time........

I remember when I started at the jail they offered Hepatitis A and B vaccines. If anybody who doesn't know what it is, its a series of 3 shots, normaly you get the 1st shot, then a month later you get a second and then 6 months after that you get the 3rd.

The 1st shot, i had no problem with...The second shot, as soon as she removed the needle from my arm I got really weak, dizzy, and really really cold. Long story short I came down with something so bad I was out for a week with flu like symptoms. Its rare but it scared the crap out of me.

I feel really sorry for this girl, I hope there is something they can do lawsuit wise, if she is going to live like this for the rest of her life, then they can somehow get some sort of money out of this. Sad story.

I simply do not trust it. I guess I am somewhat of a conspiracy theorist on some level.............Hence the X in XMICRO...............TRUST NO ONE!

That does suck, I know for a fact many medications beat the hell out of your liver and kidneys.

How about that scary story a short while ago about how places that recycle water are returning water back to the population FILTERED BUT with many medications in it from peoples urine! SCARY.....X

I doubt its as big a problem is they make it out to be. My brother is works for the Yelm Water Dept and before this he ran the water systems for a large gated community. The has a water manager's license (not sure what level) and he has shown me how intensive the testing is, both by the water managers and by the state. We all know how the news likes to sensationalize things.

As for the meds, yeah it sucks that I have to watch everything because of this crap. Still, I will be probably getting both flu shots and that doesn't bug me.

i never get flu shots and i never get sick.

you don't need a shot to fight the flu. your immune system can be super high if you just stay away from the things that lower it. if you get sick, just stay in bed and fight the flu like anyone else does.

its strange that a government cares so much and does not want to see a single person die, but the ONLY thing they are willing to do is say "oh you need to get this vaccine".

what about the long, long list of other things people need who are sick? (just get the shot, after that leave us alone and don't bother us.)

You're totally right, they are injecting a mind control serum that will activate in 2012.

On a more serious note, your body can fight a lot of things to an extent with out vaccines. However, the vaccine exposes your body to the antigen in small quantities which helps the body to produce cells that recognize specific structures on the surface of the antigen and therefore neutralize it.

Your body is like a memory bank for every foreign particle that enters it, however, the typical immune response can take 3-5 days to activate (without previous inoculation) with a strong enough response to kill something that is present in harmful quantities.

@Diddiyo- doctors seldom administer or develop vaccines- nurses most often give people the shot, and researchers and and pharmaceutical types develop them.

@ Xanthos- it is a poor attitude with the whole - Ill get it if you pay for it... Most people are lucky/healthy enough to fight through the flu season, but if you do get sick it goes along the "pay now or pay later idea"...so we will have to pay for it...just a lot more and along with an emergency room bill (possibly) if you don't take the responsibility
