a few Sporty cards that are quick and around that price range are listed from good handling to good power:

Mini Cooper S
RSX
S2000
R-X7
Supra
Challenger
Camaro 6 cyl

Failed attempts to make the list:
Mustang 6 cyl (8 cyl will be around 30 unless it's your stepmom's)
My 4 cylinder Mitsubishi eclipse had more speed/handling than 6 cylinder mustangs stock for stock. Get a Cooper and outhandle it.

If you want my opinion read on...

Get a summer job for an extra few thousand dollars and put it towards your car to get the little bit extra. Might enable you to buy a v8 (Mustang/Camaro) if you can convince your parents. You're involved in politics somewhat, so I'm sure you have superior BS techniques. I'm not in politics but my skills are extremely honed. If you need help, lemme know.

When you customize your car, the better you start out with, the more you'll enjoy the final results.
