I'm a ways out from a similar point. Too much to do before I get there to estimate when, but the short list for complimentary vehicle has, for a while, been, older el Camino of some type, S10, or a Colorado, all largely dependent on financial considerations when I go to pull the trigger.
My need to consider off road time is minimal, these days, but something with a bed for all the household things, hauling yard waste or home improvement maintenance waste over to the municipal facilities, transport of anything large or cumbersome for the house or car, all the utilitarian uses for a vehicle is my primary consideration.
Another platform to tinker with and modify is secondary, but most of the reason an S10 or the el Camino are on the list. That an el Camino would represent a lot of temptation to eventually go down the restomod, power tour, drag week route, may fit in both the pro and con columns.
If I were just looking for utility and reliability, diesel Colorado would be about the entirety of the list.
