Ok. I realize this is an internet article but if it's contents are even slightly true, Officer Slager is innocent and will be released. Using the footage already presented it appears that Officer Slager was shot by his own taser by Mr. Scott. When the first shot was fired you can see a wire running from the cartridge being dragged by Mr. Scott. If Officer Slager was unaware of the the location of the triggering mechanism than it's possible he felt he was about to be tased and incapacitated by a man who he just fought with. The man who recorded the shooting admitted to a fight between the two before the video was recorded. The distance of the first shot was no longer than the distance of the taser wire. All of this happened in a matter of seconds. Interesting information that should at the very least reduce the charges against the officer. I just hope that a fair trial is presented and the truth comes out, whatever that may be. There will now be mandated use of body cams by all North Charleston police officers so hopefully some good will still come of this tragedy.
I read the article this morning. Regardless of the outcome the MEDIA has put everyone in such a frenzy (as usual). This article brings out the question of whether the subject had the taser and was the officer tased, both of which justify the use of deadly force. Having said that, shooting him in the back while he was running a way (a potentially unarmed subject) was found unjustified by the Supreme Court (1985, Tennessee vs. Garner). It's a blurry line.... IMHO charging the officer with murder within a day of the shooting was purely administrative in order to quell the masses, they can drop the charges at any time.

This is going to be a drawn out, ugly trial.... I don't believe he'll do prison time for this.
