We really won't know what either of them will look like until the information is released. We also don't know how much either will cost or how fuel effecient the LT1 will be in either the Caddy or a possible Camaro. Fuel effeciency measures take a lot more into account that simple the engine (wgt,. gearing, tune). I think if the LT1 would be more powerful AND equal/more effient AND more profitable in the Caddy, then GM would put it in the Caddy. My guess is that for this platform the LF3 made more sense.
Just to give you and idea of the difference in cost between a TTV6 and large V8, go price an F150 with the different engines. It is actually cheaper to get one with the Ecoboost than the 6.2L V8 and you get similar power (be sure to take in account the cost of options that are required). Ford claims a $750 cost difference (for the customer) over the 5.0L engine. Given that the resale value of the Ecoboosts are about $1,600 more than the 5.0, that seems to be a good choice for Ford and the consumer. I'm thing have the choice of a LT1 and LF3 is going to be a good option for GM and it's buyers as well.
