That 4 banger is also more powerful and almost as torquey as the 3.4L V6 GM was using a decade ago as the base engine in the Impala, and has the added benefit of working through a 6 speed transmission rather than a 4. On the other hand, it will have to lug around a bit more weight. But on the whole, it'll be a perfectly adequate engine for the car. If you want more, there's a V6 available for just over 30 grand.

Accord, yes. But thats also 1 size down from the Impala.

The Maxima starts at 32,780, which is 2 grand more than the base V6 Impala (Maxima is V6 only, so it doensn't seem fair to compare it to the 4 banger price)
