Only thing over the ZL1 the gt500 has going for it is its faster with its newer motor. Thats it. The MRS is so good its in an entirely different league for ease of use and performance/comfort. And even after that you have to deal with the not so good exhaust note out of the 5.8. Abit better of a SC whine though.

While I firmly believe that anyone concerned with FE should not own a muscle car, there are reasons the manufacturers ARE concerned about FE, even on their HiPo cars like the ZL1 and GT500. It's due to CAFE regs and the absolutely ignorant and stupid things Obama has done with the newest CAFE regs that make them concerned about it. Even though the ZL1 and GT500 will not be sold in numbers great enough to really impact the overall manufacturers CAFE ratings, they still have to make other cars get even better FE to keep their ratings high enough to meet CAFE regs.
You can bet your ass that GM is working hard to figure out a way to get more HP AND better fuel economy out of the ZL1. That GG tax is a tough selling point. Not that it will matter to those who prefer the ZL1 over anything else though.

Oh, uh, yeah. Because SO many times when I've smoked another car on the street, at the next intersection the guy says, "Hey....there's a cone setup in a parking lot just down the road. Let's go there and see what cha got on a timed course!" or, "OK, ya beat me running down the road. Now let's make a 1,000 mile trip to the Dragon and see if you can keep up with me there."

A.O. also said that with their simulations, the ZL1 will handily beat the GT500 to 60mph too.
I think I've made myself very clear in that I greatly respect both the ZL1 and the GT500 for what they are.
Each car has its strengths and anyone can go out there and say, "The ZL1 is the winner because it corners better!" or, "The GT500 is the King because it's faster in the 1/4 and only a little behind the ZL1 in cornering!"
With very little investment, you can make either car perform as well as the other. I will say this though. The suspension on the GT500 will be easier to modify for performance on road courses than that of the ZL1. On the GT500, some lowering springs, LCA's and better struts/shocks along with a better set of shoes is going to bring the heat on the ZL1. I don't know what the aftermarket is doing for the ZL1 suspension wise though, so if someone could educate me a bit on that, I'd appreciate it.
It's an AWESOME time to be a Muscle Car Enthusiast! I have my reasons for preferring the Mustang, but I can sure respect the ZL1!
