Welcome aboard!
Am I understanding this correctly: you're shooting a right-handed model left-handed? Or is it that you normally shoot lefty, but are now shooting righty? Either way that is great your bow permits you to do that. I normally shoot righty. Last year I bought a lefty take-down recurve to help keep my shoulder strength balanced - sort of the same principle as lifting weights.

It's a great sport for the whole family. I wouldn't trade those years for anything.

x2 on the sport being great for families, it's a fine way to build lasting memories.
Is your effectiveness something a lighter draw weight could help? I had a bout of tendinitis in my drawing shoulder last June which took a few months to recuperate. After a couple months, lowering the poundage on my old bow helped greatly during the recovery. Now I am back to exercising normally again and I can draw the original weight on my new bow very well, though I am still careful not to overdo it.
Even if you shoot a crossbow, you're welcome to join. The presence of experienced archers is a plus!
