You may not like them, but they aren't trendy. LEDs are generally considered superior lighting technology. They use less energy which makes them ideal for hybrids and EVs. They are expensive and that's why they aren't wide spread yet.

Agreed. Makes alignment of the decklid absolutely critical. All the ones I've seen look quite good.
