Legally I don't think they can but since it is
their car, they can just decide not to sell it to you and refund your deposit I would think. I do not know for sure what happens if they "back out" of the "contract".
That being said, I wouldn't worry too much if you have it in writing. What I wrote above is just my opinion of the worst case scenario. Like I said, $931 either way isn't exactly enough IMO to break the deal for me.
