The value of German engineering is
extremely over rated. Generally speaking, they over engineer things such that they become needlessly complex and/or precise, typically resulting in higher cost and lower reliability (except in cases with
much higher cost with comparable reliability). All this is to eek out a product with a slightly better spec sheet. If you're looking for high-end lab equipment where precision matters more than cost, the Germans are great. But cars? I'll take the typically American credo of "Keep It Simple Stupid!" any day of the week.
