I've got a Grand Am ... close enough to the Alero. I've had a couple issues with it since I bought it, nothing much but nothing to brag about either

Tad older than he was thinking of. Plus, my parrents had a 'cloud car' of that vintage and had a number of problems, though it was a V6 not an I4

Oh I know, each region has its specialties: domestics do trucks and large cars well, Asians do small cars well, and Europeans do luxury cars well.
One other car that I thought of tonight as an alternative is the Mazda3, though I know nothing of its reliability.
