Just have your wife start a relationship with your dog. i was in the same situtation, me and my dog were a pair that couldn't be broken and when my gf would come over he would get between us until she moved away a couple of feet. Same goes for when she would sleep over. he always sleeps on the edge of my bed and then goes to his bed. anytime my little brother or my gf would sleep on my bed he would make it very uncomfortable for them. (he usually leaves after 5 mins of me laying in bed to his bed when we are alone-but stays all night when someone else is there). The best thing is like everyone is saying is to build a relationship between your wife and the dog.
P.S- i have had plenty of arguements over it, i guess some people don't know the bond between their pet and the owner.
