You will have waited 5 years already at that point, whats another few months?
At this point, I'm driving an Impreza that has 100k miles on it. It won't last forever, and it wouldn't remotely surprise me if I travel another 100k miles in it over the next year, especially if I get a job in Topeka or Kansas City while living in Lawrence. I don't want to be blowing my new car budget on this car when it is already next to worthless. For example, a $3k motor replacement would be more than the value of my car in a couple of years. It would be smarter to spend that $3k on a car that will retain that value over the following 2 years rather than investing more than the value of the car for it to survive.

I probably should point out that my intention is to make an enormous down payment on the Camaro or pay in full the value of any Corvette. The rationale behind this is that my credit is almost nonexistent. With a market like this, I can't expect a good interest rate, so I only want to have a small amount to pay over time. Coming out of college with very little money and no loans, I could be worse off. Many of you mention loans, but I don't have to deal with them since I've worked and had help through college. I've been very fortunate.

You've got more important things to think about : )
I won't be getting a Cobalt only because it would be a disappointment until I could get my RWD muscle car. It would take so much out of my Camaro-Corvette fund that I would have to start over and hope to get one in 2015. That's not acceptable to me, so I'll continue to use the Subaru until I have to buy.

In any case, I will have to buy a car eventually. When the Subaru dies [again], I will have to buy something. My goal is to buy a new Camaro SS, but I would be equally delighted to drive a Corvette with light use. I will continue to deliberate.
