The joys of being in a car club

I mentioned a while ago that I officially joined NEOCC (NorthEastern Ohio Camaro Club).

I recently started deep cleaning my Camaro (starting with the interior) and when I pulled the driver's side floor mat, I realized JUST HOW BIG the hole from my left foot (working the clutch for 161,100 miles) was. I vacuumed and shampooed the mat anyway, but I also posted a picture of it on the NEOCC Facebook page and asked for some help finding new mats.

Since I'm retired now and on a fixed budget, cost IS an issue - so I wasn't going to pay $72+ for a set of new stock mats and Weathertech or custom mats are even more expensive.

One guy got back to me with the two front mats USED, but wanted $50 for them. I was actually thinking about it, but then two days after posting the picture, another member PMed me and offered two BRAND NEW - still in the plastic, black, 5th gen mats. He had recently upgraded to a 6th gen and couldn't use the mats anymore. He told me $30 and they were mine ... but I had to drive an hour to pick them up from him. Needless to say, I was on the road before my computer finished shutting down!

I almost beat my GPS 'estimated time' getting there and when I did, I opened the plastic and found that they were exactly what he said: stock, black, 5th gen mats - a perfect match for the ones I wanted to replace

nice.i once worked at a classic pontiac resto shop after my day job was over.got things done to my old pontiac that i never could have afforded and learned how to sandblast, reupholster car seats and do body work the right way.one of the customers paid me for reupholstering his car with the gift of a GTO judge carb and intake and i got a great price on a rebuilt 67 400 pontiac motor.turned my old tempest into a GTO killer and i met lots of good people.

You know someone had to say it, Don. You drove roughly 70 miles at 65mph and used 9.3 gals of gas at $3.50 / gal. You used $32.50 of gas and paid $30.00 for the mats making their cost $62.50!

Dude, that's awesome! Being part of a car club has its perks, and this story just proves it. It's great to see fellow car enthusiasts helping each other out, especially when it comes to finding affordable parts. And those brand new mats for $30? Score! You're lucky the drive wasn't too long and you got there in no time.

Sometimes it's all about the value of the intangibles - like perhaps it was a pleasant road trip through the country with your favorite guy or gal?

It’s always about that. Reason for having the car.

Not MY gas ... I used the wife's car. And $62.50 is STILL cheaper than $72+

Deprived yourself of a perfectly good cruise in the Camaro? $15.00 penalty! $77.50! Kidding. Enjoy the mats.
