Should i disable my AFM on my 2023 2SS?

good after noon every one I'm new to the Camaro world and I am getting a 2023 2SS and was wondering if anyone has had issues with that AFM on the Camaros like people are on the sierra/silverado trucks. was thinking of getting a Range to deactivate the AFM so it stays n V8 all the time but would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

The two I've owned never had a problem with AFM/DOD. However mine is disabled through tuning right now.

Even with mods, my gas mileage is roughly the same on 93 pump.

Leave it, don't leave it, shouldn't be an issue far as I'm aware. But I will defer to other's expertise for a better answer.

Get rid of V4 mode for sure. the driving experience is pure pleasure with out AFM kicking in and out. Have it tuned out or get a range device. I have 15k miles on my 2021 LT1 and have had no AFM for 12k miles

I agree 100% and hate AFM as much as I’d hate auto start stop. I think the $ could have been spent elsewhere, but what do I know?

Get your cars and see what you think. Maybe you won’t notice the transition between 4 and 8 cylinders. I only say that as some people aren’t all that tuned into the inner working of their cars (noises, odd shifting, mild vibration etc). The transition is pretty subtle, but for some of us too much to ignore.

Thank the lord no auto stop start and yes some people with no butt meter may not even notice AFM and one might ask why did that person get a 10 speed auto trans high performance V8 car in the first place if they do not experience or feel any of the mechanical wonderfullness these cars offer?

Thanks for the replies I think I will just have to see once I get it. My main concern is the internal parts and wasn’t sure if they are built the same as the 6.2s in the trucks that have had some lifter problems from the AFM. Has anyone used the range before to deactivate there car?

While your concerns are reasonable, I’ve not seen AFM lifters as a major issue here. Clean oil is key to keeping the AFM lifters working effectively.

Regardless of the above, in stock form (without a tune or without using a Range), theres still the possibility that AFM components can fail.

And yes, I’ve used the Range and it works well.

I use the Range AFM Disabler on my 2020 2SS, works fine... And the nice thing is you can remove it at any time and there is no trace it was used, so warranty stays intact...

I have 170 miles on mine since taking delivery on Saturday. I have no complaints with AFM. I keep the display screen on fuel econ and AFM mode so I can see what it's doing. I do a lot of driving on the highway normally and this car will be no exception. The change to V4 is seamless, physically. The exhaust tone is what I notice. But I've been using Touring mode on the highway and the quieter tone isn't a problem. Cruising at 70mph at 1,500RPM while doing 30mpg isn't terrible. Maybe it's the difference of a daily driver vs a weekend driver. I do use Sport mode in town just because of how it sounds. Since I'm following break-in procedures, I'm pretty light-footed now.

Don't get me wrong, the sound is glorious and I smile every time I hear that beautiful V8. I smile every time it starts, and every time it bellows it's luscious tone. My wife and daughters are also in love with how it looks and sounds. We're fans.

If it turns out that AFM reduces reliability and longevity of a daily driver, then I would get the bypass device. There will be 20k miles a year put on this car, I buy cars to drive and I enjoy what I drive.
