GMS EMPLOYEE PRICING

I have my 2 go to dealers here in SW Florida. I qualify for GMS Employee Pricing. I bought 3 new Chevy's in 2021 from the two and they gladly accepted GMS (why its called that I do not know sounds like Supplier Pricing). Got in touch with both looking for a ZL1 because I can't get a C8. Neither had any coming in. They can order one but I do not want to wait 9 months like I did for the 2021 2SS 1LE. I want torch red or black. A dealer in Georgia had a black one in transit. I called them. It was already spoken for. No problem. Salesman said I can order you one. I asked about GMS pricing and he all but laughed at me before hanging up.

If you have a good dealer and a good relationship with them don't stray. Stick with what you know and who takes care of you. I get it is a seller/dealer market, but the Karma Gods will rise again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else get turned down for GMS?

I have a GMS certificate printed out ready to provide it to the dealer. My order will hopefully be built starting on Monday. My dealership is already playing with my trade-in price as they only offered me $41,000 where another dealership offered me $2000 more. I'm still trying to figure out what it benefits dealerships to not allow GMS. I can't help wonder if they're submitting GMS pricing on their own and pocketing the money.

GM doesn’t reimburse the entire amount, plus, in these crazy times, most can easily sell anything at all for MSRP or higher. Dealers are not required to honor GMS even if the vehicle is eligible. Some cars, like C8’s, don’t have GMS available regardless of what a dealer would do.

What is the current GMS discount? I'm seeing different numbers on different websites. In searching for the information, I found GM Employee pricing which is about $5000 off of the Camaro that I'm looking at. This actually has motivated me to see if I can contact the GM Employee line to see if my suspended status has been removed. My SS# was abused by a dealership and discounts were being dolled out under my name many years ago. I want to say that the suspension should almost be completed. Either way, it can't help to find out and hell if it saves me $5000 then I'll sit on hold for a good while.

Back in the day GM paid dealers 5% to handle the sale with the employee discount.

In SE Michigan dealers used to get in trouble for offering customers incentives to use them.

If you are a GM employee or a qualified family member of an employee you will know when the dealership is applying the GMS discount. You have to sign papers confirming you received it and the dealership has a set amount they can charge for the documentation fee, last time I bought a car it was $75.00. I always go to the GM family first website and build the car showing my discount to compare it with the paperwork at the dealership when purchasing the car.

As others have posted it’s at the dealership’s discretion if they want to except a employee discount number on a qualifying vehicle.

Also in this day and time dealers are selling cars well above sticker price. Factor in they have lost their monthly volume sales quota bonuses due to limited shipments gives them no reason to go out of their way to except your number, unless you have been a really good customer in the past.

GMS = GM Stockholder (aka employee pricing)

GM Supplier is not the same as GMS even though the acronym seems similar. Why GM does this.....no idea!

Heres a pricing example for a Camaro-----

Im the original poster. Thank you for that info. Been buying GM products for 30 plus years and did not know what it meant.

And yes, it is still capped at $75 through GM for the DOC fee. Some dealers are crazy with the fees and why people pay them is beyond me. I have seen over a $1000 in dealer fees with another $299 Admin fee. Last time we looked at a new Nissan Maxima at Sutherlin Nissan in SW FL, they had along with dealer, admin, and nitrogen tire fill $399 and tint (not even on the car)$399, a environmental Protection fee and it was either $2995 or $3995. Salesman didn't even know what it was. Needless to say there was not a Maxima in our driveway.

It doesn't work that way. There is a ton of paperwork involved on the dealership level between the GMS buyer and the dealership when it's a GMS deal. The dealer has to sell the vehicle at employee price or less and prove that they did so whenever accepting a GMS deal. There is a GM form that the dealer and the GMS buyer must sign. This form shows the exact selling price.

If they were to manipulate the numbers to try to pocket more money, that would be a good way for them to get their dealer agreement cancelled by GM.

The reason most dealers don't sell at GMS currently(we do as a courtesy to the actual GM Employee only) is that they're not making as much as selling a vehicle at MSRP. Since most vehicles sell for MSRP(or higher in some cases) it doesn't really make sense for a dealer to sell something and make less money when they don't need to.

The doc fee is not always maxed at $75. Depending on state laws, if the dealership charges all customers the same amount for their doc fee.

Documentation Fees
Dealers will be permitted to assess a maximum of $75 in documentation fees, except when:
• A documentation fee is specified under state law; and
• The dealership charges all customers the same documentation fee
In Texas, the max allowed by the state is $150 so any dealer that charges every customer $150, can also charge GMS buyers that same amount.

Ok. Thanks for the info. Maybe it is maxed by GM in Florida at $75 then. Dealerships in this state can pretty much charge what they want fee wise. I have seen from No Dealer Fee advertised to over a $1000 I have only used the GMS in Florida. As far as paperwork I recall only signing a couple extra papers for the GMS purchase. One for the number you get to give the dealer. and one stating that you will not sell the car for 6 months

Here are the current "rules" for the Supplier discount depending on whether the program is being used by a person who is a supplier, or someone who is a supplier who is giving a code to someone else.

See the above attachments. The "rule" is that the max dealer doc fee is supposed to be $75.......unless.....
