Gen 5 Roof moldings

Have a gen 5 RS. The molding on either side of the roof are both plastic inserts. For a 2014 my car only has 47k miles. 1st owner garaged all the time. I also garage it but it’s my daily driver.

The roof channel pieces are badly weathered and faded. Rest of the paint is awesome. Anyone else experiencing this?

Have my car at local dealership now getting 2 new moldings color matched and installed. Was $100 for the moldings and was quoted about another $200 for paint and install. Seems like a fair price.

Anyone seen better options to handle this issue?

Happy new year !

You could have them wrapped. That would be a lot cheaper and would hold up well.

I have a TOTAL garage queen. I noticed mine are discoloring a bit too. But it'll be 7 years old in '22. That alone is hard to believe. Good to know when the time comes....

My Camaro is doing the same thing, she is 11 years old and was a daily for 9 of them. I am going to have them wrapped in CF to match my spoiler and front splitter. 50 bucks...

My car is a garage queen in winter but, gets around 7k during the riding season. I have to say, the moldings are holding up rather well. Possibly color dependent on how they wear?

The very backs of mine are starting to change colors as well. Mine has been a garage queen most of the time I’ve owned and I presume most of its life as the paint and stripes are all still in very good condition. I’ve had mine since 2018 but Im the 4th owner according to carfax.

I've got the same thing occurring on my 2014 (ashen gray). Might eventually get it repainted or wrapped, but it's personally not an urgent concern.
I think that the fading was present when I bought the car used from a dealership. One previous owner.

My biggest issue was the last car wash I had, the front right side pulled up a bit and created a wind whistle at highway speed. Final bill, $388. Color matched and brand new moldings installed. Looks fantastic. I’ll see if I can figure out how to add an image of before and after.

The biggest issue with them isn't the color fading, but their brittleness. They aren't exactly made using high quality plastic so after a few years, when you try to take them off to repaint or wrap them, you're almost guaranteed to break them. Unfortunately, buying new ones and getting them paint matched or wrapped is pretty much the only option because of this.

That's the problem I had with mine. My car sat in the Florida sun for 10 years. They faded and got very brittle. When we had the car repainted, they were replaced and painted to match the new color.

Same here. I used the Vvivid epoxy high gloss about a year ago. Still standing up pretty good.

I think a lot has to do with where you live. my 2014 is like new here in NJ. down south the UV is more intense and UV IS the culprit responsible.
