YOUR THOUGHTS ON BUYING A ZL1 WITH FLOOD DAMAGE

I was surfing the web today and found a 2014 ZL1 that has had flood damage. It has 60k plus miles on it also. It has been re-conditioned by some place in North Carolina and I guess they specialize in doing this. I have thought about buying some Z's with branded titles before only if they have been stolen and recovered but I have wondered about flood damaged cars if it would be worth the trouble. With as much electronics as the ZL1's have it scares me to consider buying one. What do you guys think about flood damaged cars?

It depends on how flooded. Water intrusion into the floor board that maybe got the seat controls maybe. Any submergence beyond that, no way. Of course finding out how deep the water was is probably impossible.

If they specialize in this, maybe if they would give a 6 month warranty I might pursue it.

What type of water? Salt of fresh? Might be hard to determine but if you can find vehicle history you might be able to figure out what area the car was registered in.

If salt NO!

I watched a black 2014 go through auction with 70,000 miles miles last week. Just over 24k. With the electronics in cars these days stay clear. They clean them up really nice but the potential problems down the road could be haunting. Now if you were going to gut it & go to the track only maybe.

The word “damage” is right there in the description. It’s not a head-scratcher man.

Also keep in mind that the state it comes from. It might be "rebuildable" in one state, but "parts only" in another state. These car get moved around a lot & it's history follows it. You might have problems even trying to insure a flood car as well. Not worth the trouble.

Leave the headache for someone else.

Besides the potential electronic issues you could be dealing with mold.

I did not think of this but great point. They have in their ad you can call them and they will explain the extent of the damage but you know as well as I do the car is for sale cause they cannot eat it.

Copy the vin & paste it into a new tab. Select images. It was a mess. The car was moved from Texas to Alabama. Looks like the water crushed the roto fab filter & got up to the spoiler. I wouldn't touch it.

Besides replacing the harness you got O2 sensors, ride height sensors for struts, the the strut pins, steering rack electrical connections, SC pump, starter, trans, drive shaft joints, center bearing. Assuming it didn’t come above the floor pan or gas pedal it’s 5 volts, console gauges, seat controls, door speakers, if above the the bumper fuel pump control module in trunk, suspension control module in trunk, fuse boxes in trunk for fpcm and scm.

I am thinking you just want another one and hope you weren’t considering this as an investment.

O no not at the least was I interested in it. I just put it on here to see what everyone else thought about these "branded title cars" because I for sure would not want one that has been under water.
