Clutch replacement upgrade
I'm looking at the mcleod dual disc clutch.
The rxt is ceramic and can handle 1000hp, the rst is organic and handles 800 I'm wondering if anyone has either of these clutches installed and can give me some feedback. A transmission shop said he doesn't think i would like the ceramic because it grabs too quickly. I do plan to be around the 800hp at some point but it is a stock '15 Camaro SS so far. |

Hello
I am using a 3 disc ceramic clutch, it is as smooth as butter. I have had no issues or complaints with it! It is not one of the ones you listed, but a 3 disc ceramic.

I had horrible experiences with Mantic. Went through two of their twin disk setups. Broke both. It's unfortunate, because I did like the pedal feel....up until they broke. Got a mcleod twin rxt now. Its pretty decent.

I just bought RXT. Not on the car yet. Idk how it’ll drive, but based on people’s feedback it’s all good. I’ll be around 800rwhp when I get the car back.... whenever that’ll be..

I had a mcleod twin disk for 3 years and had enough troubles that I pulled it after 20k miles. Went to the mantic twin disk and all issues resolved. It took the 500 miles of break in to get the pedal where I wanted it to be for engagement.
McLeod had high rpm release issues, vibration from 1300 to 1700 rpm and real touchy engagement. |

Wow, sorry to hear you had issues with mantic. What would break in your setup? Your's is the first time i have heard of issues with mantic.

It isn't the first I've heard of problems. Lol. I ripped the springs right out of the clutch discs. They said my car must be weird and that it has more "throw" in the pedal. Lmao The pressure plate fingers eventually extend to far and hit the clutch discs, making noise and eventually ripping the springs out. Boom broken clutch, twice. I used 3 different slaves and 2 different master cylinders. Nothing would work. They tried to say the clutches were defective....but two clutches made in different batches? Now I didn't have any clutch issues before this. I figured I would upgrade for the future since I pulled the trans for a rebuild. Like I said, loved the clutch, when It worked....but it was short lived.

I've had the RXT installed for about a year now and I like it. I followed the break in procedure, I still have a little bit of chatter, but I like how it handles so it's worth it to me.

If you have the coin get an RPS bullet twin or triple and don’t look back

I have had the rxt twin disc for over two years with over 900 whp and love it. I am just now getting it rebuilt and plan to upgrade to Mcleod's 1200 clutch but that is only due to going up in power and needing more clutch. It does grab fairly quickly but it is like butter to push and once you are use to the clutch, I can drive it as easily as any other and take off just as smooth. The only way I will ever go away from McLeod is if I ever upgrade to a slipper clutch.

I recently replaced my RST with an RXT, so I've run both in the same car.
The RST was much friendlier on the street. What your guy told you about the "grabbiness" is correct. It is much more pronounced on the RXT. I bought the RST thinking I would take my car to the track occassionally. I ended up making over 80 passes on the strip last year. The RST didn't hold up. It was slipping by the end of the season. I will admit that I was much too aggressive on the drivetrane preload until I got the hang of things, which didn't help the longevity at all. I ended up speaking to a technical person at McCloed and he told me that he doesn't recomment the RST at all for drag racing, despite what their website says. I installed a new RXT last winter, broke it in and I've made a pass down the drag strip with it. I like it so far, but the RST was a lot easier to drive in traffic.
