ZL1 - Trailer Tiedown Strap Options
Just picked up an Aluma 8220Tilt and, I am pondering the strapping options. Whatever I get will come from MACs, but, the options are basically 1) Under car frame points via ZL1 AddOn items 2) Through the wheel 3) Over tire top and secure with eTrack.
It looks like Option#1, the straps will push up against the front splitter and rear may straddle muffler area? Option#2 using MACs or any other similar will not reach the front D-Rings w/o splitter contact... may have to use side stake pockets. Positive being "X" strapping in the rear for lateral protection.Option#3 looks cleanest but, not 100% sure about lateral movement. Positive being car suspension does the work and no body/wheel contact. At this moment I am swaying towards #3 Over-The-Tire.... Thoughts, options, pics? (Thanks in advance)

I have option 1
I think option 1 sucks. It compresses the suspension, which I do not like. You can't really cross the rears, which I do not like. The nuts on the rear like to come loose (one of these days I will put some Loctite on them). The rear ones also spin, which they aren't supposed to, which I do not like I want option 3

Etrack with wheel straps and call it a day. I have pulled thousands of miles with this set up with the cruise set a 85mph and never had a strap issue or the car move any.

Excellent and thanks. I was looking for a real-world pic and use for the e-track with our car. I also saw that Ericsson has a e-Chock that might serve as a nice addition. Again, thank you!

I use option 1 and cross the straps in the rear. Yes, the retaining nut has become loose once. The car is easy to strap and never moves so what is the big deal? Over the tire straps are likely more secure but is there any true "advantage"? I am happy towing with option 1.

I have never seen E-Track on aluminum trailers. Is there a reason for that or I just haven't seen it done?
I plan to do Option 3 for the front and Option 1 for the rear. |

I just picked up my trailer last week, and this coming weekend will size-up where the eTrack might go (think I've measured about 61.5" avg between front and rear tire center open groove area. I would do thru-bolts on the track unless where I'd make the holes is directly over a support beam I can not access, or on the corner of a beam. We will see.

My same thoughts as-well. Let the car take some of the small jolts that the trailer did not absorb.

Congrats on the new trailer, OP!
I use Macs thru the wheels and they work fantastic. COTA is 17hrs one way, Road Atlanta is 12hrs, never a problem and the car never moves. I cross the fronts and that allows for no contact with the splitter, and don't cross the rears as the D-rings are actually inboard the wheels a bit so the car can't move laterally. Really simple, fast to do, and the Macs straps are the bomb.
