Radar/Laser Detectors
Got my first ticket in the SS and now I'm carrying 6 pts, which is not good. WAZE didn't save me this time.
I used to use a passport radar detector (from 2004 to 2009), so now I'm thinking about getting a new one. It's hard to image mounting one in the car. There's no good place for it and it will get stolen. What are you guys using? |

I may look into the Escort Max 360... Heard it's one of the best and the priciest.

Always a passionate discussion between the Valentine camp and the Passport camp.
I prefer Valentine. It typically wins the award for most sensitive and gets put down for false alarms. I have been driving with one for 15+ years so interpreting it is second nature for me. My SS came with a smart cord hidden display already wired for a Passport so I was tempted to try it but decided to stay Valentine. Mine is mounted near the top of the windshield on the driver's side of the rear view mirror. |

Escort 360 is best but depends on where you live. Never ever depend on some social media sharing for the latest as an office can setup up quickly and get you before anyone reports it. Even Escort Live isn't fool proof..
Look at what is used primarily in your state (Lidar is big in GA, Ohio is the only state that still uses X band, etc) and decide from there based on professional reviews. Radar Roy is a good place to check out videos on range and features. |

I had Best Buy install mine right below right hand side of rear view mirror and the guy was cool enough to install my camera for free behind the mirror so I don't have to see it every time I start the car up.

i have a blend mount and its wonderful, i like the passport redline and 8500. the redline is more sensitive but picks up more false alarms, like the stupid tahoes with rear sensors...i can pick them up from a half a mile back. i can set mine to display the specific wavelength of detected waves so that helps me know for sure whats a false and not.

I use a Valentine One and hard wired it, but suction cup mounted it by the visor so that it's not super visible and isn't baking in the direct sun all day.
If you go with a Valentine, don't buy a used one without checking the serial number on the website for upgrades. If it doesn't have the programming in it to eliminate the rear sensors on cars like Audi you will need to send it in for a hardware upgrade which will cost you more than buying it new in the long run. Uniden R3 just came out - got mine today. It's digital, beats V1 and even the Redline for range, and has excellent filtering. Only negative is it doesn't have arrows. And it will be a while for the next shipment.

BTW, with 6 points I'd probably be laying pretty low . . .

I have the Max 360 hardwired on the Blendmount...had a Passport Solo 3 and the Max 360 is a HUGE improvement. I noticed on I37/I35 it's picking up DPS/County way further than I ever expected or hoped to.
