Question HELP: Check Engine Light - Gas Cap

Hey All!!
Totally brand new here and hope to get some help! I have a 2012 Chevy Camaro which has had little troubles - THANK GOD! I do have this one burning issue, shortly after I got the car it showed Check Engine Light. Apparently there was a recall J6350 Engine Control Module Reprogramming with SPS. It was under warranty so supposedly it was fixed. Seems this little issue continues to be a thorn in my side! Last year around this same time that little light showed up again and the dealership told me it was my gas cap so supposedly they replaced it again under warranty. You'll never guess...here it is again and AGAIN they are saying check gas cap!!! Of course no more warranty and they are suggesting they do a smoke test - WTH. I have read some others have had the same issue and to my knowledge after all tests are done still no resolution. HELP me save money any suggestions??

I figured that the question had been asked before, so I searched the forum. Wasn't trying to make him feel stupid

Thanks for the info btw Im a lady lol
I have read and reread the forum suggested and that is exactly what I am afraid of...extra money and no solution. Do you think the smoke test is worth the money $85.00 for starters?

What's the code/s you're getting? Without this information, it is hard to determine what the issue is.

id do the cheap thing first, another new gas cap and make sure it clicks once as its supposed to.as another camaro noob im not sure how to reset the system,im thinking along the lines of disconnecting the battery for 20 min. or so.perhaps someone else will chime in thats more knowledgeable.

UPDATE: after speaking with some folks in my office who have a somewhat understanding of OBD's it was recommended I take the car to Autozone and get a FREE diagnosis then perhaps investigate those findings. The ODB showed a vapor canister was the issue. Upon further discussions with the clerk at Autozone I was told this indicator will not interfere with the functionality of the car but will come into play when I have to have an emissions test, required in my county. I asked him to turn off/reset the system's "check engine light." He explained to me that if I can go 50 - 80 miles without the check engine light coming on then I am fine and its just going to be a bother when it comes on. To answer the question above, yes you can disconnect your battery for 15-20 mins and it too will reset the check engine light.
I have a friend that works with engines at the GM plant and was also told that the sensors can malfunction in the cold weather. Funny this happened last December as well hmmm we might be on to something. SOOOO for now I have cancelled the smoke test and am watching the miles until the check engine light comes on again. Fingers crossed no time soon.
Always open to learning more about this issue, comments welcome.

If it's a recall issue there should be no question regarding warranty...You may have to raise a little hell with the service dept. manager or the gen. manager, but they should repair the problem without any cost to you...
